Why do people on the Internet become being less nice to each other?
>>
Because whatever they say has no consequences

Fucking idiot
>>
Why does she grow a disgusting pulsating vein on her shoulder when she gets hit with the water balloon?
>>
It brings out true nature. There are no external inhibitions. Only internal ones. That's why communities with fewer social rules tend to be crueller. Also, size. Small communities are nicer, because the judgement spotlight is brighter on each individual.
>>
>>960343
Because I won't get physically assaulted by people stronger than I.
>>
>>960349
This seems to explain most accurately. The rise of population sure is the main issue here, together with anonymity.
However, as the mainstram Internet becomes less anonymous, will the situation be affected by this factor in the future?
>>
>>960347
>no consequences

the answer is here

Vulnerability and ease.
Being positive is sticking your neck out there whereas being a cunt is easy and safe. We need more anti-bully rangers.

Watched those specials before falling asleep last night. Forgot how enjoyable the After School Days ED was.

With Trump soon to be President will it get even worse? Having a king shitposter as the most powerful man in the world can't be good for a harmonious online I don't think.
>>
>>960373
Not really, when net neutrality is lost and online privacy is breached it's more likely when people realize there will be consequence for their action on the Internet.
>>
>>960368
Many people on this place are horrible at banter. It's like a group making mother jokes, and then one says, "at least I have a mother".

Because they aren't self-aware. They become self-absorbed. They forget they're talking to real people, and not something designed for their selfish entertainment.
>>
>>960393
No, "banter" is hardly ever used here. I always thought it was started by Europeans or Australians.

>>960368
>Lighten up you fucking faggot moron.
I know you typed that as an example, but that's not what the OP is talking about.

We aren't idiots, everyone knows people on /pol/ for example are actually pissed off at each other, and wasting hours of their day to make their "enemies" look bad with throbbing veins on their foreheads.

It's not a question of what language or words are being used. It's just obvious that on some boards humor is basically treated as nothing more than a ploy to give the impression that you're relaxed while you're opponent is the one who is angry.

/pol/ likes to think it's clever, but it's actually extremely transparent. There is hardly any genuine "for the lulz" trolling happening on that board.
>>
>>960343
Because offering kindness is showing weakness, and on the internet everyone else is out to slit your throat or steal your lunch. People learn to adapt to their environments.
>>
>>960520
Take it easy chad.
You're close, but it has nothing to do with strength/weakness.

It's just a simple fact that the best way to get people to volunteer their opinions/knowledge freely is to bait them.
It's easy to force conversations into a "oh well, who knows lol" position when everyone is being nice. So people act like assholes to nice people just to force the discussion toward a more black/white conclusion.

Of course it doesn't help that a lot of that behavior ends up becoming memes.

Really should be nice when necessary.
>>
>>961237
stop by for a visit
>>
>>961237
Well, some people think they're being nice when they really aren't. Some people think they're being nice when they're really being a complete asshole. That's because some people don't think about what is actually nice in a given situation, and think saying or posting anything at all is good. Many times waiting a while to say it is nicer. Have patience, and don't post if it's just for the sake of posting it. Have a real purposed before you post anything.
>>
>>961270
To be honest I never understand the intention of posting for the sole purpose to piss someone off without contributing to the discussion. What does that kind of posters achieve anyway? Only come out and show his superiority?
>>
>>961300
to let off steam in a healthier manner than saying yelling at your family/friends

or just escapism in general, if you get caught up with fucking with somebody then you can forget other things
>>
4chan is so much nicer than it used to be. Even /b/ these days.

A lot of these kids have grown up and realized that spending hours online saying shit you don't mean has gotten old. Especially when their social skills have developed and they started being involved in the real world.
>>
>>961316
>A lot of these kids have grown up
And then there is /pol/. And /r9k/, to a large extent, though there's so much overlap that it can be hard to tell sometimes where /r9k/ ends and /pol/ begins.
>>
>>961300
It doesn't actually matter if you contribute to a discussion if you're also trying to make someone mad/shitposting in a way that doesn't help. In those cases, they're just being annoying to people who genuinely like what the thread is about, and it's likely they deserve to be banned.

I mean, you don't go to a thread about some cute anime and start posting about the characters acting like sluts and actually expect you're innocent, because you're just shitposting or trolling it at that point.

>>961316
Self-awareness, honesty, and understanding of the real world will make you a better person. I'm a no-life, but I'm not human trash because I actually try to understand why the world is the way it is.

Don't say no, American 'banter' is easy to spot because it's stupid, obnoxious and highly autistic.

Let me give you an example:

- Australian banter
>ohh mate this chick I was with last night was the best fuck of my life
>started a little bedroom role play with your right hand have ya mate?
>Oh you can talk mate, who'd you think inspired me?
>so you're thinking about me when you're wanking? Are you sure it was a chick last night, mate?
>*everyone laughs over a few beers*

- American ''''banter''''
>dude I miss the waves back in cali, bro, was totes rad
>SHUT THE FUCK UP YOU FUCKIN KEK, ALABAMA IS THE BEST FUCKIN STATE IN 'MURRICA AND ISNT OVERRUN BY SPICS LIKE YOU, FUCKING COMMIEFORNIA FAG LOL STUPID KEK FUCK BET YOU PREP YOUR WIFE'S SON THE BULL TO BBC YOU ON BLACKED.COM HHAHAHAHAHA FUCKING FAG FUCK I SAY FUCK A LOT TO COMPENSATE FOR MY SMALL DICK

You receive no feedback from people in the form of facial expressions, body language, or vocal cues. It bypasses your empathy. Same reason why spergs behave in real life like it's the internet. Of course I'm half drunk but this sounds like it makes sense when i read it back.

One thing is that they bring real life into it. Then you can add politics into it and everything becomes awful.

They started obsessing over each other's identities and attacking each over said identities instead of engaging in the spirit of anonymous discussion.

It's something a lot of people fall prey to.

edgy children that have been given the impression that it's 'cool' and 'punk' to use swear words and other childish lashings out against society

often as a substitute for actual substance, /pol/ shitposters coming to other boards; and trying to discuss topics they obviously don't understand will just call you a nigger and stuff like that and put up airs of anger to try and pretend they are more punk, and deflect from their own stupidity

I like 420chan even though I don't use drugs because they ban the edgy, aggressive faggots who tell people to 'kys'
>>
>>972897
There's really no need for such unnecessary negatvitiy in the context of a discussion. Jokes and bants are good but people that just spew vitriol have no real purpose other than to direct their negativity onto others. I want to be clear that I'm not advocating for censorship of opinions, but merely removal of unnecessary elements of discussion that literally bring nothing positive to the situation. Like, sometimes derails and stupid jokes can make a discussion into something different but equally as interesting. However when you just start calling people names and attacking everything, you bring the discourse down to the level of a child. Unfortunately I think the problem with people being so shitty on the internet is that they are literally children. I would have to assume that presently there is a shitton of kids under the age of 13 on the internet on a daily basis with little to no parental supervision. Regardless of all the immature and impulsive adults that now have access to the internet, you're also dealing with actualy children that have not ever been taught how to have reasonable interactions with people in this kind of environment. So, it's certainly a complicated problem as such.
>>
>>972897
I gotta say, I've never used drugs but all these chill people who do are making me consider it.

Problem is it costs money I could be spending on video games.
>>

>>
>>972908
drugs like anything else in life, are good in moderation. if you have an addictive personality then I would avoid them. They can be fun, but just a word of advice. what exactly are you thinking of trying?
>>
>>960343
The internet is freedom. In a total anarchy, people would do what comes naturally to them. Here's a perfect example of total freedom and total assholishness.

Swearing is just an alternative method of conveying a specified piece of information and it's up to the speaker's full discretion of betraying his opinion or feelings in said method, which lack of vocabulary contributes to this phenomenon but is not a decisive factor.
