do you think animals got confused today when the sky went dark for a few minutes?
Not just the animals but the plants too.
Think it effects bugs behavior a bit due to evening light levels at noon.
Possibly. People are prone to anthropomorphizing things, however, and most creatures aren't smart enough to be confused in the first place.

I think pretty much all mammals would have at least some sort of primitive confusion, it's an important feeling that encourages one to learn from an unexpected situation.
I saw a cat just sitting out in a field alone at the time of the eclipse but I think it was just normal cat behavior.
The Illinois Pavement Apes didn't seem to be acting any different today.
