Networking with people is key to both excelling after your studies and having a good time in college. Since you are starting college I will tell you this is the best time to be open and present yourself, the early bird gets the worm, as they say and being one of the first to network and be friendly will make people think you are cool, popular and a chill dude. As long as you don't sperg out and immerse yourself in the college experience you will be fine.
