Why do some of the posters here continue to reply to a poster

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

Why do some of the posters here continue to reply to a poster even though they know that the poster is not trying to discuss a topic in a manner that respects logical soundness?

Simple. With a lack of identity, users start to feel like ignoring something is equivalent to accepting it, and allowing it to exist on boards they frequent alters the image of that board which they feel also alters their own image as a user of that board.
So they'd rather fight it off until the end of time than to ever ignore.

This is made 10x worse on /qa/ because /qa/ is sort of unofficially viewed as the meta of all 4chan, so people fight to control the meta.

Why do lots of them think that a random anonymous poster represents the whole board culture? In addition, why does this happen sometimes even though the poster is a name/tripfag?
>>
>>1530602
>a random anonymous poster
They don't. What causes the fighting are the long term patterns of posters and what sort of things become associated to those patterns.
>name/tripfag
Because using a name/trip itself is one such pattern of posting that comes with all sorts of sterotypes which are almost all negative.

What the other guy said.

Also some individuals genuinely do not know when to give it a rest and stop replying despite it being detrimental to the health of the thread, in the case of someone trolling too there's those who feed them on purpose, these kind of people think they're being witty and funny by carrying it on.
>>
>>1530612
If that is the case, how how does that poster affect the image of the board? Since most users of a board are anonymous and do not have an easily recognizable long-lasting posting pattern, the said poster is more likely to be recognized as a personal expression rather than representing the board culture as a whole.

This is true, especially the last part, but it's not because of some "meta of all 4chan", but because it's unmoderated. Users have to step in to dissuade negative behavior.
/qa/ can't-- and won't-- be allowed to go back to mid to late 2016's awfulness.
>>
>>1530624
But those aren't the cases where people feel obligated to keep responding even though they realize the other person is completely unreasonable or just trolling, which is what the OP was asking.

It's only when an individual posts something that immediately is recognized as falling into a pattern. Then their post carries the weight of everything negative that that pattern represents, so the users who just want to fight off that pattern are going to respond no matter how obvious it is.

That's why we see so much overt trolling these days, they don't even have to hide it. It's like saying
>yeah, I know this is bait, and you know this is bait. But you know all what it represents, can you really afford to let us spam this content over and over until all the new users of your board have been completely misled?
So they take the bait, to "set the record straight" or something.

So there's only 2 options:
1) Keep fighting it forever, and keep taking obvious bait in the hopes of eliminating any confusion or attempts to subvert your "board culture".
2) Just accept that your community isn't yours to control. You ultimately can't dictate behavior here, nor can you dictate the overall image others will have of your community and get over it.

#2 is very difficult for most people to accept, and the worst part about it is, the people who do accept it basically have no voice.
#1 is easy, and such ways of doing things will naturally be the loudest and most visible on any board which leads to more people falling into suit.

I thought /trash/ had worse moderation.

/trash/ has almost none, and even Loli and shota slips through the cracks there

Same thing with /qa/, though. I think the main difference is /trash/'s problems are internal while /qa/'s are external.
