I got increasingly fed up with not being able to find an anime I like, nothing really seemed "right" at the time. Eventually I ended up not watching anime for a month, maybe thinking I'd see anime in a different light. The first thing I felt like watching again was To Love Ru, without any worries. I'm kind of confused with this outcome.
I've never watched the anime, but from the pictures I've seen it just looks so much worse than the manga...

It's actually pretty enjoyable if you treat it like a pornographic sitcom. It's a show that goes nowhere and is about nothing, you watch it because it's dumb, silly shit like in a sitcom. Except it's also lewd, silly shit. Granted, this is just my new-found perspective on an entire genre of stories I previously despised, so don't take it too seriously.

I've already read the manga, I mean. It's nice, has some funny moments, but the main draw for me was the art.
Also not a huge fan of the pink hair - I know it's canonical, but at least with the manga I can pretend it's blonde.
It's nice to wind down and watch the anime equivalent of junk food sometimes, I don't know if this is you but some people get too caught up with trying to find great anime that they forget they're allowed to enjoy themselves and get burnt out because they think they've watched everything that's "good".

Eh, to each their own. Blonde hair would look really weird on them in my opinion. Was it ever shown that way? I thought the first chapters had pink hair.

Yeah, kind of. What happens is I wouldn't feel "in the mood" for a certain anime, and I couldn't find one that was just right. I guess I just need to take it easy, I was being too serious about anime.

I read it in B&W. Maybe I would agree with you if I had read the color version instead.
