Agreed on the obnoxious atheists part, but SJWs are hated on most subs there, some subs exist to call them out on their BS (r/tumblrinaction)

Can someone tell me how the reddit boogeyman even started? I only remember finding out about it's existence through this place and then hearing it spouted more and more until it got to ridiculous levels.

I mean, it still would have flaws just like any other site but the karma system is a deal breaker.

I have no interest in having artificially "civil" conversations with the same kind of manchildren you run into anywhere but who are motivated to pretend they're more intelligent or kind than they really are just to get vanity points that don't actually mean shit. Completely sucking the life out of everything including humor because now probably at least 50% of every joke told, and every interesting though is just done to farm karma (and probably 50% of those posts are just mindless reposts that were successful in the past)

At least on 4chan if you read between the shitposts you can find stuff that you know is genuine because there's no artificial motivation for it. They do it if they want to do it, and they shitpost if they want to shitpost.

I can't say for sure but it's probably only half true, everywhere has it's shitposters, sure on 4chan you don't have a reputation to protect so you can just let your inhibitions go, but that doesn't mean people only come here from other sites to shitpost and ban evade.

That makes sense. I guess some people are 4chan natives, and all they know how to do is make the website look bad, even though they are likely the kind of person to complain about 4chan being bad. Talk about a self-destructive personality. Maybe they're just bored and frustrated teenagers who are only just entering the process of growing up, and they're starting to understand just how wrong they were about the world?

-not anonymous (psudo-anonymous at best)
-voting system
-user created boards so 99% of all boards are dead
-web 2.0 integration "Share This On Reddit!"
other stuff that is bad probably stems from the community itself, which could have easily turned out different
