From what I've heard I think the Japanese sites are more passive aggressive, but to the extreme.
So like non-stop bad advice "drink bleach", "delete system32" type replies.

But they also have some interesting features that could really make communities less toxic. For instance I think 2channel actually has some built-in functionality for ignoring other users (and posts have ID's there)
