My mother raised me without a microwave because she was superstitious about it causing radiation sickness. So I basically went my entire life without microwave dinners or reheating properly cooked food in the microwave. I think I tried microwaved day old Chinese leftovers once and it was gross. I have never even had microwave popcorn.

I'm having a kid and I've been reading a lot about how a lot of people are abandoning the microwave because it is starting to be considered unhealthy. I am thinking of continuing the tradition of not having a microwave.

What does /qa/ think?

I only eat microwaved meals, have fun wasting your life cleaning up

In the future the microwave will be the layman's only fail safe against a potential AI uprising or technologically advanced dystopian regime. Enjoy your superstitious beliefs, brainlet. The tyrants' prey on the ignorant.
>>
I think it's a good idea OP. Microwaves lend themselves to processed and manafactured food and it might encourage your kids to avoid prepackaged meals and learn some cooking, so as not to end up like this; >>1488704

I hole-hardedly agree, but allow me to play doubles advocate here for a moment. For all intensive purposes I think you are wrong. In an age where false morals are a diamond dozen, true virtues are a blessing in the skies. We often put our false morality on a petal stool like a bunch of pre-Madonnas, but you all seem to be taking something very valuable for granite. So I ask of you to mustard up all the strength you can because it is a doggy dog world out there. Although there is some merit to what you are saying it seems like you have a huge ship on your shoulder. In your argument you seem to throw everything in but the kids Nsync, and even though you are having a feel day with this I am here to bring you back into reality. I have a sick sense when it comes to these types of things. It is almost spooky, because I cannot turn a blonde eye to these glaring flaws in your rhetoric. I have zero taller ants when it comes to people spouting out hate in the name of moral righteousness. You just need to remember what comes around is all around, and when supply and command fails you will be the first to go. Make my words, when you get down to brass stacks it doesn't take rocket appliances to get two birds stoned at once. It's clear who makes the pants in this relationship, and sometimes you just have to swallow your prize and accept the facts. You might have to come to this conclusion through denial and error but I swear on my mother's mating name that when you put the petal to the medal you will pass with flying carpets like it’s a peach of cake.

What I really wanted to say is that the high speed of microwave cooking makes cooking more approachable to people that normaly wouldn't want to wait for a pot, even if it's just to reheat leftovers.

I, too, grew up without one. Well, not entirely though. We actually borrowed one from a neighbour for a couple of months who lent it to us after he got a new one. We ended up only using it for popcorn a few times since the food we tried reheating tasted bland. I agree with >>1488712. It's much better to make your own food so you know what's in it.

I do however believe that it's undeniable that a microwave can be useful in a household. Being able to reheat pizza can be really convenient, same with quickly heating up things like butter. It's also useful for steaming vegetables such as squash or broccoli.
Buying a microwave doesn't mean you're going to be forced to buy pre-packaged meals and abandon all notions of healthy eating when you feed your children pizza and hot pockets every week.

oven and stovetop can do everything a microwave can do, slower, but better in every other category.
