How come new memes aren't being made anymore? We're mostly just recycling old memes at this point. Did we enter the post-meme era?

Sounds dumb to say, but internet humour has just gotten more refined, so its harder to make something with the spread a 2007 meme could get
Pic related, nowadays you wonder how anyone couldve found it funny
>>
Memes are still made, they're just generally made on other sites first and then imported to 4chan since 4chan isn't the front page of the internet anymore. /tv/ still makes popular memes pretty regulalry, though. The types of memes that actually spread from 4chan to other sites, like in the good old days.

newfag spotted
>>1452588
memes are being made faster than ever before, but they are short lived flash in the pan shit
>>
>>1452588
Because our civilization is being destroyed. It's not a new era, the standards of the site are all gone and the new userbase is utter trash. In case you haven't noticed, it's 10 times harder to post yet the faggy feels and faggy frog spam is 10 times bigger than any 'spam' from eearlier periods
>>
Because everyone thinks that, making memes today= reddit, facebook some other popular site.
And when normies stole rage faces 4chan got PTSD.
>>
somewhere along the line people forgot the word fad and substituted it for meme

Silly rabbit, memes are for kids!
>>
>>1452591
No one that wasn't underage ever found some of the old memes funny. That pic is a prime example. Or mudkipz. Most of the "true" memes were not kiddy stuff. When people point to these as unfunny old memes, they instantly become a newfag in my eyes.

>>1452651
You weren't underage when you started using 4chan? Everyone else was, moot included.

Long story short, memes were often contextually funny. 4chan lost it's context beyond self-referential humor as time went on.

The trend of hyper-insular jokes started to strangle any organic memes as quick as they appeated, as those were no longer enough to satiate the appetite of the average 4channer, now immune to all things normal.

Around the time that users began to think spamming irrelevant images was how to 'make' a new meme, the quality radically plummeted. Today it's literally a wasteland of the latter, but you didn't need me to tell you that.

Most young people today will not find that particular scene in Psycho in any way horrifying anymore. The same goes for memes.

"Memes" are awful.

This really. They're basically prepackaged jokes for mass consumption by the unwashed masses of the internet.

Activism kills the Internet.
When it grows too large it shows the creators that anything they do can be used to fuel someone's political aspirations, even if you don't like that person's politics.
If your content is good and neutral + you have no way to protect it, you have to face the fact that someone will eventually abuse it.

Neutral content creation on the Internet died last year.
All good equability content creators from now on will be divided into camps that express their political ideologies.
