The Japanese government puts brainwashing material into their anime to control the population. If you have seen any anime, you will notice that the guy always turns down the girls passes for sex. Most people get brainwashed by seeing this happen over and over, but a few of us actually think for ourselves and can still get laid even if we watch all the anime in the world.

I can function like a normal person for everything in life except women, when it comes to going that one step further with a girl I'm honestly just at a loss or I unintentionally fuck it up because I don't really understand how to go beyond the friendship phase with anyone, even if a girl proactively shows interest in me I just don't know where to go from there and the flame goes out.

It's true that I never really taught myself the ropes growing up or experimented to find out how it all works, but I've had people push me in the right direction plenty of times and I think I just subconsciously avoid close and sexual scenarios with women considering all the chances I've had only to screw it up, if I had to make a guess then it's the latter reason OP, it's the effect of excessive amounts of escapism, I've been into anime and vidya since I was young. I don't care too much about it all really, that's probably an effect too, fuck the world I just want to watch anime.

It's way easier than you're making it out to be. Girls are terrible friends so don't worry about "losing a friend" by asking her out or initiating romantic sexual contact. If she recoils in horror and never talks to you again you just saved yourself six years of torment while being friend-zoned.
