Remember sage is not a downvote, it is merely a tool to enhance posting.

>saging
>>
here's my enhanced post

Meanwhile in the real world, purpose is defined by how people actually use something, not the intent behind its creation. If most people use sage as a downvote, then it's a downvote. Which is why moot neutered it.
>>
>>1428941
This is true but it doesn't need to apply on /qa/. I hope my /qa/mblr frens know what sage is really for, and use it appropriately.
>>
>>1429206
this. people on /a/ post in bad threads to sage them.
>>
>>1429206
We need more intelligence in 4chan...

still trying to force this huh
>>

That is not even a remotely new term if that's what you're implying.
>>
I've seen sage as a downvote used even on futaba, where is your god now?
>>
Sage can only be used for two reasons really: You think your post isn't good enough for the thread to be bumped, or you think the thread itself isn't good enough to bumped. The latter can easily be misconstrued as a "downvote" because it is essentially a sign of disapproval. It's difficult to argue that it shouldn't or couldn't be interpreted in this way. Invisible sage is the best solution to this problem because the site retains the usage of this function while also not blatantly advertising the fact that it was used. I do remember when it was visible and people would frequently lose their shit over it.
>>
>>1430076
That's not what he's implying at all.

I still laugh at how 4chan doesn't understand what sage means.
If only I knew moon so I wouldn't have to spend time on a board that imports foreign concepts and then DOES IT WRONG all the time.
Using sage as a way to "insult" someone's post or thread is just completely wrong and a retarded misuse of a good feature that is so popular in sites like 2ch and Futaba. Fuck, iichan and 4-ch do it right. It's just 4chan and 4chan's lame knockoffs that fail at using sage.
The true meaning of sage means that YOUR POST isn't worthy enough to bump the thread. It's ironic, because you think that you're insulting others while you're just, in fact, insulting yourself. Yes, sage can be used when posting a derogatory comment in a thread that you don't want to bump, but posting with just the word "sage" accomplishes nothing but contribute to spamming the board. The trend of replying with the name of a tripfag and sage is even worse, as it accomplishes nothing and only serves to increase the e-penis of whoever you're "attacking".
The sage feature was never meant to serve as an implied insult or general disagreement! Why people started using it that way is beyond me. There are plenty of reasons why one would choose not to bump a thread with his reply. For example, bumping threads with stupid one liner replies should be discouraged and those people should be coerced into using sage instead.
I want to use sage, yet I almost never do it on 4chan because people will jump on me thinking I'm insulting their post or something.

>>1430091
He's certainly implying the term is newer and that there's one person trying to force it, which is false on both accounts.

I sage every one of my posts, and agree with this line of thinking >>1430082, I do it for the first reason

MFW back in the day when I used to lurk /a/ (please don't ask me why...) there was some tripfag who used to sage every thread he posted in. Do you have any idea of the drama it caused? I'll tell you that it was pretty epic indeed.

It is wrong to assume that there must be a reason behind an action. Sage is a neutral tool that causes a simple effect to a thread, yet a lot of people try to reverse thinking the intention behind it.
>>
I think post votes should be a feature here too, I use reddit, and it's a good thing there, the best posts get placed on the top you can just ignore all the trolling.
>>
There's absolutely nothing with using sage as a ''downvote'', i.e. showing signs of disapproval for a particular post or thread. This site worked best when it was self-moderated by the community, and sage worked as a tool to help that happen. When a newfag or cancer saw a bad post get sagebombed they understood shit like that didn't belong

it made you mad and they should post more of it.

"Polite sage" is not useful except on boards with very high retention where bumping a thread makes more difference to the attention it gets than to its lifetime. For example, textboards like 2ch.
>>
Even when not using sage as a downvote, there's people who assume it's a downvote.
>>
>>1431223
Caring about stuff is for losers. I'm an oldfag from 2014 so I understand that 4chan is just for shitposting.
>>
>>1428817
Let's test out this sage thing
>>
I sage because /jp/ is a slowish board and I don't want to look like a samefag being the only person bumping threads.
>>
>>1431233
Is there even any point in sageing on /jp/ anymore when the only people who do it are non-general posters?
>>
>>1431223
Trolls will exist no matter what you do. You can't build a wall at the border unless you want to be a forum with registration. If you care about a board, your choice is to attract trolls by expressing your anger at things, getting immediate satisfaction but killing your board long term, or to deny them the attention they seek, giving it to other threads. The latter is self-moderation; the former is self-destruction as seen in boards like /pol/.
