I can't understand that mindset, if anything it's the higher quality posts that should deserve more replies and by replying to them to continue the discussion you're showing respect to the people who actually contribute. A lot of people probably do this, it's just every so often somebody takes it to extreme levels, like barneyfag or that insane yuri spammer on /a/ and /u/.
