I would say it depends on the quality of your post, a low quality one either being called bait or ignored, and the higher quality/longer post generally being taken more seriously, that's what I would say, but it's still likely that even if it was well written they'd call it bait or just dismiss it with an offhand comment, especially if it's the unpopular opinion in the thread or goes against what the thread is about in the first place, it's a combo of that and generally just not being lucky enough to find a poster who will discuss it with you.
