No. Hardware is nothing but hardware. The OS is everything. Think apple, people have to buy an apple device to have apple OS (I know, calm your autism faggot, this is in general.) The same is with network equipment.

Now however, there are white boxes. Pieces of network equipment that you can throw freeware OSes on that do the same thing that Cisco and all the others do.

The hack has nothing to do with layoffs. It's just the way networking is going now.

This is why the NSA needs to have its management fired.

Forcing developers to put malware into their programs because "Only we will have the key! We promise!" is never a fucking good idea.
>>
>>85701624
>>
>>85705994

The NSA only has a job because they use police and secret courts to order developers to implement backdoors.

That's it.

If it weren't for that, the NSA would be made of codebreakers, still.

NSA holding all the keys to software isn't so they can use it against terrorists, it's so they can ensure that they have a job. Can't fire the person who owns all your hardware and software and the keys to it.

This hacker group found the keys, and has apparently had it for years. Now they're auctioning some of it away as a kind of 'security wake-up call' to why letting the NSA have backdoors to your system is a terrible idea.

one of which is a 2013 Cisco exploit that cannot be fixed, because it is cooked into the firmware of 60,000 dollar routers.

It's not. They are cutting jobs because useless ventures, departments that failed to grow according to share holders expectations. SPVSS and IoT are two that are probably facing large layoffs.
Cisco failed where Arista/Juniper/VMware/AWS succeeded.

"Hacks" like this are common, usually they are known about in advance and a consortium sends out the fix/patch/workaround in advance (24-48hrs) to the biggest of customers, then they announce it publicly.
>>
If these tools have been around since 2013, are these the tools that have been used to hack the DNC and Hillarys E-mails?

Cisco employee here. The ASA exploits are only usable on older versions of code. Cisco has known about thia vulnerability since 2011 and patched it in 2012 without going public about it.

They layoffs are completely unrelated. Cisco is literally purging boomers who refuse to take the company in the direction of software rather than hardware. It is a BIG change.

SNMP is used for remotely managing devices.

There are these things called MIBs that are basically definitions of data objects that the hardware devices expose to SNMP monitoring software so that you can watch things like CPU usage, RAM, storage, etc over the network.

SNMP gets attacked a lot because it's hard to code secure SNMP server daemons

You still have to tailor code to the hardware, even at iphone level.

Software is only everything if the hardware can do everything you could ever want it to.

considering current firewalls don't know what the fuck to do with websockets, and websockets are the pillar of IoT which all the big players are pushing. Routers and firewalls need a shake up.

>muh Russia

Maybe it was the Russians, maybe it was ISIS, maybe it was Mr. Robot, who cares? The point of these leaks was not to share the NSA's arsenal with the world. They stole an old Colt revolver when they've moved on to P90's. 3 years is an eternity when it comes to this kind of technology. Even now, Cisco's patching those exploits (and I'm sure their lawyers have made more than one unpleasant phone call to Congress if not the NSA themselves).

As this article rightly points out, they did this publicly. They wanted the whole world to know what they did. This isn't about leaking hacking tools so other people can do it. This is about showing everybody that the NSA is not as invincible as they'd like everyone to believe. This is about embarrassing the most infamous and secretive state-sponsored hackers in the world, that Goliath can bleed.

Oh, and as for the DNC hacks? Nobody held a gun to their heads and told them to write those emails. Shooting the messenger isn't going to work, and isn't working now.

My biggest compliant about Cisco is that it is like thousands of companies combined into one. It is extremely frustrating to employees and our customers. Customers see us as one Cisco but that isn't the case at all.

Also, we literally have departments that compete against each other. So not only do we have competition from other companies but we have it internally too.

The problem is that within days(if not already) someone will have made an automated tool that's going to start attempting to use the hacks against every IP down the list. Won't matter if you're important or not. Be it to install ransomware on everyone's system, get at financial/personal info, or just cause mayhem and data loss. If it's a software thing, and update in router firmware or using third-party firmware should solve the problem, but if it's hardware(and it affects common home routers), everyone is going to need to immediately stop using them.

Bad metaphor that diminishes the impact of these leaks. It's more like they stole dirty bombs when the government has nukes. Sure, the government has better weapons, but I wouldn't want dirty bombs to fall into the hands of just anyone.

These aren't "colt 45" level weapons. These are keys that can seriously fuck shit up, and are dangerous in the wrong hands. Not only that, but the Shadow Brokers suggested they have even more deadly keys, that they are willing to release for the right price. So, sure...the government will always have the highest level of tech, but mini nukes in the hands of rogue/unidentifiable agents is a frightening premise.

So what the fuck is the big deal here? I literally don't see any problem, but maybe I'm just not understanding it correctly. Because all it looks like is the NSA is doing what it's supposed to be doing, and cisco is laying off employees for financial reasons like any other company would.
>>
>>85709976
This goes back to precedent set in the 1980s.
When AT&T was converting over to fiber optic cable and becoming more sattelite dependent, the new technology was going to be impossible for law enforcement and gov. agencies to just tap into a couple of wires to listen in like they always had.
The phone co.(back then there was only one) resisted and the government had to strongarm them into complying and engineering in a back door for them to get into the systems. Not long after the gov classified ma bell a monopoly and broke them up anyway.
But that's what set the stage for government ability to monitor essentially all communications.

Our shit was buggy as fuck, we found out during regression testing in 2011, and then secretly released a fix in all versions of code afterwards.

Unfortunately for us, the NSA also found this vulnerability and exploited it.

If anything you should worry about the NSA actively hijacking our shipments and bugging them. They still do it and it pisses off so many execs but we cannot do anything about it.

The internet has drastically changed the implementation of false-flagging and now they'll likely just lie about it. Sandy Hook, anyone?

I am just starting to piece things together, but it will involve a multitude of combined attacks. The use of dirty bombs, 0day exploits, attacks on utilities, communications. They have been planning this for decades and have recently speed things up. The purchase of ammo, fema coffins, MRAPs around the US, the "refugee crisis", Turkey Coup and Incirlik air bas and the .nukes there.

Well that is really disconcerting. That whole Blackjack comic series was disconcerting. The fact that the paper never gave an explanation for its publication is disconcerting.

The "Elites", the rich and powerful. You see some in the news everyday, some you have never seen or heard of. Their endgame is absolute world control and control of you and evryone else. This will affect everyone, this is be a combined worldwide attack on all of us.

some of the previous threads comments tipped me onto that site:
>OP theorized they want to bring in a NWO banking system on the rubble of the old one.
>Typical cashless system, mark of the beast style etc.

>Old op here, Look into BRICS and AIIB. This has been their plan for a while
>somehow crash Fed Reserve
>offer AIIB as savior
>petrodollar collapse
>yuan and bitcoin reign supreme
>I suspect this virus may be the "somehow"

>Snowden is a BRICS agent, and they're about ready to perform the big switch in my framework.

>My guess that Shadow Broker is working for BRICS and BRICS want to replace the Federal Reserve with the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank.

>There are also /tinfoil/ implications to this since BRICS propaganda outlets have been talking about this exact scenario for a month or two now.

>Every site from veteranstoday to zerohedge has been talking about BRICS taking out the Fed and replacing it with AIIB

so I googled and turned up http://redefininggod.com/ which seems to fit in with this theory.
>>
>>85725059
>Do any politicians care?
They either don't know, are brainwashed or distracted with something else or are in the pocket of the Elites.
>Do they know?
Some do, but they are just puppets, they will be safeguarded or discarded when zero hour arrives.
>And HOW many rich people?
The ones who are rich enough to buy a ticket to safety.
>>

LOL. Good grief, I would love that so much. Doubtful, but we can hope, I guess!! Even crappy parts of Oakland and run-down places like Richmond and Vallejo are expensive. It's fucking crazy.

Yeah, like I said it's just throwing shit at a wall and seeing what sticks. I'm more interested with what it led me to in the lower portion, though I have no clue how to pursue that information further.

CISCO is the biggest manufacturer of hardware and software for corporations and governments all over the world. Very likely smaller companies who do the same thing have been compromised.
