I honestly think it's a completely open race at this point. Hilary is too hated to win a general election. She's got too much baggage that the Conservative media can exploit and are currently exploiting.

Now generally I think the GOP (at least in it's current form) is a dying party, the demographics are just not with them, it's a matter of time before they morph into something unrecognizable or simply drift into irrelevancy like the Whigs of old.

That being said, I think the GOP has a great chance of winning this election , simply because the democratic field is so weak (and hated because Obama). The DNC was banking on Hill-dog for the last 6 years and now they are only beginning to realize how fucked they are. And now it's arguably too late to do anything about it. A lot of groundwork has to go into making a candidate seem like a legitimate option. That just hasn't happened for the Dems.

The GOP only has to nominate a half way sane candidate to run away with this one. My money is on Jeb Bush. He's just the type that the GOP always nominates. White, Safe and experienced.

You're probably right about O'Malley though Webb has a chance too. But I'm not sure about the VP. Both the Dems and the GOP have had a female VP before. Doing that again makes it look like women are only good enough for the second spot. There will be charges of a glass ceiling. They'd be better off not having a woman on the ticket at all if she can't be in the top spot.

The Republicans won't do it but if they were to nominate someone like Nikki Haley to head their ticket, it would rack up the female vote. Haley isn't insane like Palin or Bachmann. She doesn't have baggage like Rice (who probably isn't interested anyway). It would solidify the relationship between curryskins and the GOP, which is a growing minority group with money. I can't see the GOP actually doing it. But a Dem ticket with two white men versus a GOP ticket with an Indian woman and an elder statesman VP (if the GOP could manage to find one) would make for an incredibly interesting race.
