I'm pretty sure there's some policy to keep the channels busy with ominous broadcasts(hence all the bogus threads here) so that any adversaries listening won't be startled for the sudden amount of traffic that would result from an actual emergency.

We have over 1,000 F-16s sitting in mothballs alone. Takes 48 hours at Davis-Mothan Airbase to take one out of long term storage and get it in the air again.

Not everything at DMAFB is set for scrap. Many birds are just in storage and in the event of a war can be returned to service quickly. (There's 88 B-52Hs there in case we need to go Dr. Strangelove.)

any hambros present? I need antenna help. I have a few portables but I've never been able to catch my own skykang :(. All I can seem to catch on sidebands with my Grundig G3 is data trasmissions. My antenna is also shit. Also is there any way I could buy a device that does something similar to the waterfall on the SDRs so I won't have to manually scan for broadcasts?
>>
I love how comfy these threads are. Just a shame we can't give out our callsigns on here for the HAMs.

Does your Grundig have an antenna input?
>>
Ok no-hammer here, how do I get into this thing?
It's pretty fucking cool.
>>
>>140445043
yes its a 1/8th jack. I've read though that you might be better off just alligator clamping directly to the antenna because it has more overload protection. Also, if I'm running batteries how the fuck am I supposed to ground the radio? Right now I just have a random wire antenna in the rafters of my garage. It is probably only 15 or 20ft. When I lived at my parents they had a two car garage and I had a halfass sky loop in their garage that was about 120ft but I only had my C Crane pocket SW then so no side bands. I mostly like to listen to 80/75m in the early morning. I'm in the middle of bumfuck nebraska so no SDRs near by but I could usually pick up Colorado guys on 80ms

I really need to build an antenna thats not shit but I really don't know what to do.
>>
>>140428365
It's a decent radio, start with a long wire and then go from there!

>>140429959
SDRs are capable but I don't recommend them for SHTF because a laptop only runs for a few hours. Also they have no front-end filtering, so nearby strong signals and interference will screw with them. But it's a cheap way to start out and very capable despite the limitations.

It's a radio. It tunes like your car radio. Instead of just AM and FM, you also have to listen for Upper Side Band, Lower Sideband, and CW.

99% of everything on the HF (High Frequency) band is commerical radio, HAM operators and innocuous broadcasting. Very few things like HFGCS (Skyking) and Numbers Stations are cryptic.

Think of it as your car radio that can pick up far more than the car antenna is capable of.

8992 USB and 11175 USB are your USAF global channels that these threads are usually listening in on. You'll hear several messages throughout the day (static otherwise).

You can pick up a lot more, though. Russian BEAR bombers usually are active on some frequencies when they're doing drills
>>
>>140446319
>>140446152

Thanks!
>>
>>140445913
I honestly suck at Antenna theory, but your best bet is a well insulated horizontal long wire (a randomwire) and you need to balance it to your radio's antenna resistance. Most radios are 50 ohms and a long wire will be about 450 ohms. You'll need to buy or build a 9:1 balun to correct it to 50 ohms and ground the balun very well (thick copper wire from the ground of the balun to a water pipe).

If a long wire is too big for your space, try a dipole or inverted dipole wire antenna.
>>
>>140446152
There's all kinds of weird stuff, UNID'd morse, spread spectrum signals, over the horizon radar, strange digital communications, and so on. It's very sporadic and hard to predict mostly though, so it escapes attention that more regular transmissions like numbers stations attract.

For example, there are chirp sounders, radios which constantly broadcast a sweeping ping up the spectrum. This happens all the time (sounds like a very quickly rising "wheep") and if the locations of the sounders are known, you can use this information to generate a real-time graph on what bands are open for transmission and reception.
>>
>>140446879

everything important is encrypted and authenticated

>he doesn't know what skyking messages are yet he's still commenting on it as if he knows about them.
how cute!
>>
>>140455434
We're only getting speculation.
>>
>>140454282
You can listen but you have no idea what the code means. All you can do is gauge how frequent the messages become and the senders emotional state
>>
>>140455356

Yes, we will. We just won't know what the messages mean until the impacts.

>Not knowing this is a post-production mix and upload like the "HFGCS signal with a Happy Merchant" NTSC Image.

Both of these used actual recordings and added the Special Effects after, then uploaded to the webs.

You're a special kind of stupid

Someone near the antenna has been trying to fuck with us again. I noticed an SSTV signal near 8992 and fucking decoded it. 8998 if I remember correctly.
I have a pretty good idea of who this is meant to be.
There was another face, but I have no idea who it was meant to be.

Last year with the Putin missing business was insane in regards to Skyking messages.

We had Skyking, Skyking, do not answer x 3 (which are high priority messages), a few times.

There was a write up on the monitoring times site too a while back.
>>
>>140475633

The various callsigns they use now are something different than a few years ago (which that .txt is last updated at)

Activated, for today. Pothoney, Milkyway, and so on for other days.
>>
>>140476080

yeah i heard the "callsigns" are actually the phrase to tell the listener what page in his code book to use to decode the message basically cause when i started listening to these it was
Milkyway
Glenmore
Sulfate
Shotgun
Original
Orange
Rareness
Quickling

and you never hear them again after a day or so
>>
>>140478592

That would be one reasonable explanation.

Another would be rotating callsigns for the various bases.
>>
halp the mk ultra activation frequencies are getting to me... feeling sleepy

Been quiet for the past several hours.

Couple of test counts, but that's it.
