Half these soldiers who've been coddled through basic training will break within a month of being deployed when they're crying because of their blistered feet, and stink like the devils arsehole because they don't have the water to spare to shower in, and they're running on 4 hours sleep a night if they're lucky. Might as well just not have a military at all if we're just going to halfass it so badly

5 year army vet here, 2 tours in Afghanistan. You can act all tough on the internet son, but the conclusions are true. The vast majority of recruits, men AND women, suffer permanent damage to the legs and feet BEFORE they're even deployed because of cheap army footwear. Which means the army literally has to deploy semi-disabled soldiers in warzones, all because they want to save a few bucks on getting proper boots that won't fuck up your ankle. The only people who survive with minimal damage are the people like me who are smart enough to invest in several pairs of $500 boots, something most recruits can't even afford.

I'm actually okay with this depending on the drill. Boots are incredibly damaging to be highly active in to your knees. My friend got discharged from the marines because running in boots caused severe ligament damage to his knees.

In Finland the new conscripts wear sneakers for the first few weeks. Looks silly, but when you drop an average slob into a relatively active lifestyle you avoid a lot of pointless injuries. Of course if bongs decide to keep using them all the time during drills etc., that's retarded.

I've worn boots that kept my feet 100% fresh and comfy over a brutal 100 mile hike in the mountains of Yosemite, hiking dawn to dusk.

I think the military has this idea that your shoes SHOULD hurt you. They want to toughen you up. Make you build callouses. Turn shitty boots into some sort of hazing bonding ritual that shows you're man enough for anything.

But it just seems so fucking stupid. We can build waterproof steel toed shoes that will never, ever, give someone a blister if fitted right, even if they're normally sedentary and have babysoft feet.

So it just seems retarded that anyone is wandering around out there with shitty boots that destroy their feet. I mean, for what purpose. Go get some properly fitted Asolos or something.

training shoes are more suited to the human foot for physical body training

some people might say that they are training to get used to the boots for combat, while this may be true, its a separate reality that combat boots are not proper footwear for physical body training

you dont need t have crippled feet to be in the armed forces

I've never worn combat boots because I'm not a skinhead, Antifa, or a part of the military. But I've used gel inserts in hiking boots before and the difference is night and day.
