I had a stick that I would carry around with me on the playground when I was in 2nd grade and I would talk to it like my friend. I was not playing with the other kids so it was nice to talk to this small stick and it kept me company during the recess time. I became attached to the stick because of this. I took it home with me and one day my mom threw it away, thinking it was just a twig that meant nothing. I was deeply hurt and traumatized by that, but I did not tell anyone because I was embarassed that they would think I was a social reject.. That is the story of my loss of a thing that meant much to me, but nothing to everyone else.
