Because as most people don't realize, war costs money. War economy is only viable when part of the economy is turned to it and it doesn't harm said country to participate. Actual global war would mean a breakdown and absolute stall on trading across every major route and therefore money to stop flowing between countries. China would stop selling consumer goods to the US, the US would stop selling coal to china, etc. The reason only small, petty and worthless countries start wars is because their economy stands to benefit from it, or they need to take valuable land with which to make money.

It's not kikery or anything of the sort, the reason WWIII will never start is because everyone on opposing sides stands to make more money from trading amongst themselves than trading bullets.
