We basically have the same laws for self-defense. It's legal to defend yourself and even to shoot the motherfucker in theory but you know how the legal system works when we get to court...
Sometime ago some motherfuckers tied up this old guy I beat him for while. He got loose, took a gun under the pillow and started blasting. Problem was he ran outside after them and continued shooting. Got charged for that. Fucking system.

Texan here, I own a Taurus Judge Magnum revolver with PDX1 shotgun rounds, and I can legally blast a person in half with it if they break into my house.

Could always sign up at a shooting range. Will take you at least 6 months to get a handgun though.
Not gonna be allowed to carry it either, gotta have it locked up unless you go to the shooting range.

A part from that if you want something bigger like an AR-15 you are going to need membership in a sports shooting club for at least 2 years or so, or be a member of nrof (military vets)
