Also, policy at grocery store was that we had to unpack all items onto counter and THEN put items into bag. Because people really care about how their bags are packed, or something. The only time I had to deal with asshole customers was at a grocery store, and the funny part, said customers were always soccer moms and MILFs who acted like the world owed them everything. They'd push carts to a curb instead of putting them back, ask for the most ridiculous levels of help for their groceries (My own mother can do it herself) and just have no respect for the world around them. I deliver for a pizza shop. Whenever someone comes in angry or acts entitled and makes demands I just act over the top curteous and polite, it can become hilarious. I'm quitting in two months to join a trade so I just let it slide right off my back.

I've been an Uber driver for a couple years now so I've gotten to encounter all variety of people.

Over time I've found the easiest way to deal with hardasses is to confront them and ask them what the hell is up with them acting like dickish. Most of the time, not always, they kinda notice there's been something weird with their behavior and we have some conversation about it and move on. I had one of those conversations with a manager last night. The restaurant group I work in has merged with some medical corporation, which means the corporation has a hand in the group. The managers have been pressed for the last few months to 'hardass' (good word) the staff. Besides the conversation being pretty heated, the manager did kind of concede that they had changed for the corporation and become stricter.

I can't even drink a coffee now (which is apart of a whole bunch of other things).

Maybe it's just from my experience that's helped with phrasing, but most people are pretty relaxed about it.

Like I live in Houston and we've had the mess with Harvey, so more than few people have had their entire lives destroyed or at least felt like it. When someone is seeming annoyed I still ask them about it and try talking them through it. I try to be understanding with it as everyone has off days. No one ever really grows out of throwing tantrums, we just come up with new and 'maybe' more complex reasons to throw tantrums. Like I had a passenger last night who seemed like an absolute cunt, being all snippy, but I held my tongue with it just trying to ask what might be going on with them and got to learn that several of their friends had died in the past year and one just yesterday. It becomes a lot more understandable why someone would be upset then, so I tried talking about my own depressing shit to sympathize and maybe make them feel a bit better in comparison.

It's tempting to think others are just idiots, but everyone has their own shit they're going through and it's a bit pompous of any of us to think we're unique in having depressing experiences.

Nothing is an excuse for being a dick to other people. I was diagnosed with a chronic disease last year and I did not for one minute feel anger at any other human being about it. If you work a bottom of the barrel job then most of your superiors, and your customers, will view you as a piece of shit, even if they don't always behave like it. Some people are just entitled pricks. The widespread ownership of phones with cameras and ease of uploading to social media has enabled this toxic entitlement by pricks. Where people take the smallest perceived slight, escalate and film it, spread it around as publicly as possible all in an effort to bloat their own ego and destroy they lives of others by getting them sacked or publicly condemned, because they know if you make a scene public enough on social media, you can get companies to sack staff or give out freebies, whereas previously a simple apology from a manager was enough to satisfy a disgruntled customer.
