Are there subreddits dedicated to those topics? Or are you are comparing single posts to subreddits? Thats not really a fair comparison. I am pretty sure you can't make a subreddit dedicated to gore, etc. I'm not going to waste any time on reddit to investigate it myself.

In the early days of reddit it was diet 4chan content with attention whoring. The social justice douchebags and SA trolls found common ground and reported and shamed them.

Ultimately, it just made reddit even more normie friendly and served to boost its presence.
