Why wasn't the North Korean missile that went over Japan shot down mid-air? Does military intelligence have a way of knowing its payload before launch? It was aimed in the path of Guam. Wouldn't the military think that, perhaps, this is THE ONE and shoot it down? OR!!!!, are U.S. citizens being lied to about the ability to take down any missile before it reaches U.S. soil?????
>>
>>139622565
I was thinking the same thing
>>
>>139622565
We need to be hit first.
Pearl Harbor
Gulf of Tonkin
WTC
We love some justification
>>
Perhaps we don't want to show off our capability.
>>
>>139622565
>Why wasn't the North Korean missile that went over Japan shot down mid-air?

It was.

>Does military intelligence have a way of knowing its payload before launch?

They can even ask directly.

>this is THE ONE and shoot it down? OR!!!!

It was a shitty test of patience.
>>
>>139622565
>It was aimed in the path of Guam
No it fucking wasn't you nigger. It didn't even go far enough to hit Guam were it aimed that way.
>>
But then I see this on the front page of today's Google News:

https://www.voanews.com/a/us-successfuly-shoots-down-medium-range-test-missile-nea-hawaii/4006682.html

Yet, no mention of why we didn't just shoot the fucking thing down.
>>
>>139622565
bump>this strokes my little brain also
>>
They knew it wasn't going to hit anything so they didn't want to give away their anti-missile capabilities to the Norks
>>
You can easily calculate the path using speed and position in time. It's that simple even if the rocket had remote guidance capability.
But I can't think of anything else if the rocket would release the payload when it hit the 550 km height, how would Japan or USA know it.
>>
But not even a mention of SKYKING on this board when the thing launched. It's like someone's asleep at the wheel, and I'm not saying it's our 4chan brethren.
>>
>>139622565
It's likely we are waiting for them to hit someone even on accident so we have grounds to tell China to back the fuck off.

You can't shoot it down at 500 km altitude. You need to wait for the missile to come down, and then shoot it out.

THAAD and Aegis has some huge limitations. That's why they are only deployed at military bases, to protect them, as they would be targets in a strike.

See picture.
>>
>>139622565
>Why wasn't the North Korean missile that went over Japan shot down mid-air?
They were afraid that if they tried to and failed it would send a strong signal.
>>
until NK can demonstrate that it will be targeting something of importance and not the ocean, we have no reason to waste our time/resources showing off what we can do to them whether it be firing out own missles back or shooting theirs down. the general consensus is NK is close to developing their ICBMs capable of carrying nuclear warheads but they cant just yet so we'd rather wait until they do until we start shooting them down

soon tho, NK will fire a nuke into the water and we will not take any of their threats lightly. this inevitable test will give us the justification to stop their program by any means necessary and china/russia will be obliged to agree that we must take action with their continued provocations. the last thing anybody wants is NK with nukes.
>>
>>139624301
Thank you for this, anon.
>>
>>139622565
>are U.S. citizens being lied to about the ability to take down any missile before it reaches U.S. soil?????
Lied to? I don't recall hearing any guarantees from the US government that they can shoot down "any missile".

>It was aimed in the path of Guam.
It wasn't remotely "in the path of Guam". The missile went over Hokkaido, Japan's northernmost island, whereas Guam is well south of Japan.

It's a ballistic missile. It follows a simple ballistic path. They can see where it's going to land, which in this case was a very empty spot of ocean. There was no reason to attempt to shoot it down.

If they had launched to the south, avoiding Japan, it might have been taken for an attack on Guam and shot down. North Korea launched north because they want to test their ICBM at a longer range, and verify its accuracy.
>>
>>139622565
I don't know
>>
>>139623099
Wat. That's exactly what was all over the news today. We supposedly executed a successful test shooting down a medium-range missile.
>>
>>139622565

Because of the trajectory, you can only shoot them down if you are close to the launching place or intercept them when they are descending. Chasing a missile in the middle of the air Is almost impossible.
Also they probably didn't want to provoque fatty Kim, who is already extremely paranoid.
>>
>>139624882
There's planes faster than Kim missiles.
>>
>>139625043

Try flying a plane at 500 km altitude.
>>
Why didn't they prevent 9/11 or pearl harbour?
They want a successful attack to happen. If they manned the defences NK wouldn't even be a threat. But they need that bad guy to take the focus off of themselves. They are going to allow it. Otherwise they would be the bad guys and white men might think twice before enlisting. White men aren't going to enter into a bloody crippling WW3 if they don't get a devastating attack to get the rage engines boiling.
>>
Cause anti missile shit is a meme
The best system shooting at the worst missile won't have a 100% success rate and if you try to intercept fatty's rust bolt and fail that will be in a much worse position than if you hadn't tried to begin with, so they will not be deployed until everyone is positive that shit got real and political embarrassment is not longer a concern.

They will intercept maybe 30% of the warheads and then the press will say that it's cause there were too many of them to shoot down all and not because the system was unreliable in the first place.

>Why wasn't the North Korean missile that went over Japan shot down mid-air?
Showing how and from where you could shoot it down tips your hand to Russia and China. We give actual 0 shits about NK missiles. This is proxy dick measuring by Red Dragon forces.

>Does military intelligence have a way of knowing its payload before launch?
Yes, US recon satellites have geiger counters and we know were all the nukes in the world are. In case of an actual nuclear attack they can also be used to deactivate the atoms to protect American clay.

We have such tech it makes regional powers look like city states. Just cant let the genie out of the bottle until needed.
>>
>>139623259
Several different news outlets reporting on this.

What you failed to read properly was that the US fired a practice missile and then shot it down, as a way of saying "Don't forget, we CAN shoot down your missiles." to Kim-blah-blah.
This exercise was conducted AFTER the Norks fired their most recent missile over Japan. Which was not shot down, it "intentionally" broke apart during flight.

It was a ballistic missile. That means that it flies in a parabolic arc is predictable. Why would they shoot it down and put civilians on the ground at risk when they knew it wasn't going to hit the island? Plus it gives way more operational intelligence to let it land in the water where it can be recovered and analyzed. It was the smart play to let it go. I'm surprised we did it. If it's anything like 06 when the norks started doing this shit. There was at least one aegis cruiser off the Korean coast ready to push the missles shit in if got uppity. The US military isn't going to let little Kim one up our high score.

>>
>>139622565
Hint from a local army anon, we know my tracking how they move missiles. They can fuel them one time and they must be launched in a certain amount of time or else they are useless and won't launch. So yes, we knew.
>>
>>139622565
Because it it beyond difficult to shoot one down in uncontrolled conditions.

>If we try and miss
Everyone knows tand he jig is up. A lot of our perceived power goes out the window and Norks ramp up their insanity.

>If we hold a poker face
No one knows and we can continue business as usually with perceived power acting as a deterrent

Assuming it was an ICBM, you can't. There are only 3 counter ICBMs systems in the world, US, Russia and Israel (assuming this one is real).

Russia's way is to detonate a nuke on the path of the ICBM. US' way is cleaner, but has a 50% success rate. In controlled conditions. So yeah, it sucks.

Shit goes at like 7Km/second, you just can't shoot it. It's like shooting at a bullet with another bullet. It works in anime, not so much in real life.
>>
>>139622565
you don't start a war with only one missile
>>
>>139622565
Of course they could shoot it down, they want one to go off course and kill civs by accident so they don't get a warmonger penalty when they declare on NK
>>
>>139625043
No, there aren't. Missiles are about 10 times as fast.

Not all missiles and certainly not Kim ones.
>>
>>139622565
The capabilities of the current system is exaggerated, it does not yet have the ability to intercept an ICBM in real-world situations, only short and medium-range missiles.

>are U.S. citizens being lied to about the ability to take down any missile before it reaches U.S. soil?????

look up the success rate on the tests, these are missiles they know the time of launch, trajectory, speed etc of and they have a success rate between 40-60%

north korea is aware of this and has ways to attempt to counter it
>>
>>139622856
Those were all falseflags though
>>
>>139624301
So they are basically useless. If north korea attacks then we are fucked.
>>
>broke up mid flight
who says it broke up naturally?

>It was aimed in the path of Guam
Why are Americans so bad at reading maps?
>>
>>139634809
Yes, all ballistic missiles. These reach the velocities of kilometers per second on reentry. Their altitude can be hundreds or thousands of kilometers. I hope this is just sarcasm though, otherwise get the fuck out if you don't know what you're talking about.

Nobody is exaggerating its capabilities. Only the mainstream media is making generalized claims about the missile defense. THAAD/AEGIS are all regional defenses for IRBMs with certain flight profiles. NK has not been using ICBMs before July of this year, so the missile defense was thought to be capable against most of their arsenal (and probably still is).
>>
someone else ventured that it could have been launched by submarine, and not by NK at all. How do we know what all happened?
>>
>>139635985
What makes you think the capabilities of US missile defenses are for everyone to read on Wikipedia?

There's plenty of ways to intercept something and the simplest it's to know where it's going to be, you don't even need a plane for this because Kim's missiles are fairly simple.
>>
>>139622565
because in reality usa is provoking nk with military excercises and they are responding like they announced.
millitary knows it.
it's just media and stupid americans that go, duh fat kim nuke him!
>>
>>139622565
they can tell pretty fast where it's going to hit since it's ballistic and all. If you don't know it's payload just let it crash in the sea, just in case it is actually loaded with nuclear material, if you then shoot it down in flight you open a giant can of worms you don't really want to do.
>>
The one that was "shot down" was never claimed by the government, it was just msm lying to get views. Our patriot batteries can shoot them down, but they hit 3/10 on average. It's just bluff
>>
>>139637444
