I can understand not arresting or reporting immigration status on minor infractions, such as a traffic stop, or vehicle accident, but this is giving safe haven for CRIMINAL illegal aliens, priority number one in Trumps immigration reform policy. Signed by a (((republican))) governor nonetheless.
I also understand a lot of /pol/ is for smaller government and states's rights, but this is blatant bullshit, showing complete disregard for federal law.
With Illinois already on the brink of a financial disaster, I can't understand why a republican governor would risk sanctions on federal funding to protect illegals.
Is there a bigger picture I'm missing?

without reading the article and only going by my knowledge of state politics I will ask some hypotheticals:
1. if he vetoed this bill, what were the chances Michael Madigan's controlled house and senate would overthrow Rauner's decision?
2. if the high probability of a democratic shill was to win the next gubernatorial election, how much does this dick them over on a federal level?
it's a lose-lose situtation for us citizens right now
citizenship is a federal issue not state rights tard

Allowing your state police to pick and choose which immigration laws/policy to enforce is a state issue at this point.
Sure ICE can still operate in illinois, but without the support of state and local law enforcement, Feds will will essentially become completely ineffective in Illinois

I don't know how ICE knew we arrested Pedro Gonzales, they just showed up at the jail and took him away.

Thars exactly it though. This isn't an issue they need to be playing politics with. Especially one this extreme. A bill could have been passed making it the choice of the local department whether or not they want to follow the immigration policy and report illegals rather than making reporting a federal crime completely illegal.
I kind of figured the move was made to keep a few seats red, but this is going to overall hurt Illinois and put them at extreme risk of having federal funding sanctioned. All of this at the hands of a republican.
