Meme's aside, why didn't Japan or the US forces just shoot down the nork missile as soon as it entered Japanese air space?
It was just a test missile with no payload so the debris would've done little to no damage on the ground. Plus, that would've been a solid show of force from the Japanese/US side.
By doing nothing to the missile they let Kim win this particular propaganda battle.

There need to be massive repercussions against North Korea, short of all-out war. Sinking the submarine from which they launched that missile would be a good idea.

They will keep pressing the line until they finally get kicked in the face. Unless Japan wants to see monthly "not touching you! tee hee! or ammmm IIIII?"-missiles flying overland, the response now has to be severe.

The missile interception systems are not flawless. There is a substantial chance of failure. They don't want to beat their chests, say they are going to shoot it down, and then miss.

It should be very easy to intercept anything untill it enters the atmosphere or after it returns back. Aegis/THAAD exist to do that. Not so long ago they showed even hitting the training satelite.
>>
>>139460495
ICBM's go at 5km per *second*. There is nothing that can catch up with that, you have to plot their trajectory and fire another rocket at an intercept course to where the ICBM will be when it returns into the atmosphere. And that is assuming they don't change course in the meantime to confuse your targeting, or split up into (an unknown) multiple separate last-stage warheads.

And strangely, that is a good thing. ICBM's being almost unstoppable is what ensures MAD continues.

>Meme's aside, why didn't Japan or the US forces just shoot down the nork missile as soon as it entered Japanese air space?
Pretty hard to shoot down objects flying at 3km/s-5km/s with an irrational flight trajectory.
You can't hit it from behind, so you need to hit it from the front, which means you need to predict the flight pattern, if the rocket uses 1% of it's weight to adjust it's trajectory in flight that opens up a huge potential area where it might land.
Only way to shoot down a rocket like the Hwasong-12 is to fire nuclear rockets with a 10km blast radius into the general flight trajectory. Doing that would cause more damage than just ignoring it.
TL;DR US doesn't have the technology to shoot down ICBMs unless it's willing to use nuclear weapons which would be pointless against NK ICBMs that are aiming for the ocean.
>P.S hate to break it you burgers but if NK wants to they almost certainly have the tech to fly their rockets over mainland USA all the way to the Atlantic ocean
>>
>>139460779

>I guess thats about to change.
It is not like the Americans are going to risk a retaliatory attack on their homeland just to defend Japan.
The main error was cucking SKorea and Japan and not allowing them to develop a nuclear program to be able to defend their countries by themselves.
>>
>>139464948

Wait a sec, did the missile actually achieved low orbit? Or is it one of those Scud-B type of crap slingshot rocks that the US used to intercept during the gold war?
>>
>>139464923
how hyped up is you rearmament talking going atm? any chance to rewrite your laws?
>>
>>139465052
Last month NK propaganda said they could hit the US.
>>
>>139464459
Nobody can stop ICBMs from the late 60s without hydrogen bombs.
Ideally you'd want to hit the rendezvous point from behind because you can adjust for flight pattern changes more easily. but you'd need 7-8km/s to hit it from behind, there are no materials in the world that would survive that. Also there are no rocket engines with a low enough ISP to reach that speed quick enough.
So the only option left is hitting it from the front which is almost as hard because internal guidance systems and dummy targets means it's harder than finding a needle in a haystack, also you only have ~1minute time to find the needle.
>>
>>139465155

Well, yeah. Propaganda works that way. They also say Kim has super powers and that his father was born in a magical mountain from divine intervention.

Yeah but nobody in the West said it was bullshit. At most the analysts said NK couldn't shrink the nuke already, but in a couple of years it would be possible for them to achieve that.
>>
>>139465155
They almost certainly can. Hwasong-14 is a liquid fuel rocket. All they need to do is make the rocket ~40% bigger and they have a rocket capable of orbiting the earth.
When they got off of solid fuel rockets and started using liquid fuel they got that ability.
>>
>>139459207
Furry?
>>
>>139465317
Rocket technology doesn't work like magic or propaganda. All they need to do to increase the range is build a larger fuel tank. Building the fuel tank is the easiest part. hard part is making the engines and materials to survive high velocity flights.

Because the US still has to tread carefully diplomatically when it comes to Korea. It should have been Japan who shot down the missiles, not the US.

On top of that, no doubt US military analysts probably were able to predict the missiles trajectory before it re-entered the atmosphere and knew it was gonna drop into the sea.

Furthermore China is rapidly running out of reasons to keep propping up the North Koreans and this missile launch will just keep pushing China away. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if this was the final straw and they finally realized that the Norks can't be allowed to stay on this nuclear trajectory.
>>

>just add more boosters.

THAAD and Aegis has its limitations. THAAD system can only intercept missiles in 200 km range and 150 km altitude, and Aegis has a slightly longer altitude and range. Please see: http://uk.reuters.com/article/uk-northkorea-missiles-maps-idUKKCN1AW1AW

You can't just "shoot it down". You need the missile to actually descend towards a place with a missile defense system.

I firmly believe the Chinese are pulling the strings for ICBMS and nukes in North Korea, or at least collaborating with them in order to get it when shit will, inevitably, hit the fan.
>>
>>139466926
Sure if the US knows where every launch site is they can easily take out North Korean rockets on launch. But they can't take out a North Korean rocket that is flying for more than 2minutes.
Sound weapons need to be relatively close to the target to work, thought the Brazilian rocket was just crap and failed because of that, never heard that a sound weapon was used against it.
Probably easier to take out rockets with railguns or lasers than with soundweapons if you are targeting launch sites.
