"I understand that its just a maymay but there were quite a few highly developed civilizations in old Africa. While yeah, it definitely wasn't on the same level as Europe or China, Africa still had some developed peoples.
If we're going off that pic of Rome, I'm just gonna assume that we're talking about Rome around 100 AD. At about this time, African cities along the eastern coast enjoyed trade with Arabic civilizations and even peoples as far as India.
In around 300 AD, Ghana had an immense empire too. They built some cities in the heart of their kingdom. Nothing was ever the size or matched the power of any European city or civilization of the era, but its worth mentioning at the very least. Africa wasn't all mud huts. Its a big continent with many different landscapes. Some are better than others at fostering civilization. We still see it today."
