This is Houston. Just like most major hurricanes, people will literally sit at home until the day of the storm, even with evac orders, then jam the highways out.

Which would have killed people left and right in this case. Most of the people dead so far were retards that decided it was a good idea to drive into floodwaters.

I had friends down in Corpus Christi. A few people just left because they'd bug out regardless for a hurricane because MUH KATRINA, a few more headed north to get away from the coast, but most people stayed because evac routes are never, ever big enough to handle an actual evacuation in a timely manner.

I work in Wash DC for mass transit. Dirty secret: If they had to evacuate the city, it would literally take weeks, and they'll get important people out before even making announcements so the regular types will be best off walking away.

The roads are already nightmare fuel with traffic, overload them much more here and it'd be days of gridlock.
