It's pretty good as a general primer on the Third-Reich and the political/diplomatic side of WWII more generally, but Shrier falls into some common pitfalls here and there. The section on the Holocaust in particular is something that should be taken with a grain of salt; for instance, claims about lampshades and human soap have been left in despite revisions and re-issues of the book taking place after these claims were widely recognized to be incorrect.

I've never heard of this and I'm not quite that far in yet. Can you recommend any other politically neutral books on WW2 focused on Nazi Germany?
read it all, re read the sections you find of interest, this is the best book of its kind thats still available, yes its general and overly ambitious, but provides great ground work for further study, as anon above said some of the con camp stuff is just inaccurate, but on the whole this does the , i re read my copy every 2 years,

Hitler's War by David Irving is pretty neutral except for the one sentence at page 470 something where he says he doesn't believe Hitler new about the holocaust because of the Himmler/Korherr report.

Hitler's War by David Irving is generally considered to be a must-read work on the subject. Various biography of German officials are also good, I've recently started reading pic related.
speers book is also worth your time, great insight, so long as you can stand his virtue signaling

Yes along these lines are what I'm looking for. Shirer has some interesting takes since he was in the area at the time.
