>Each year, man moves a little farther from God
Why is this? The answer is that each year, it becomes increasingly difficult for the average person to understand and empathize with the characters of a 2000 year old book.
To understand the Bible, to understand Jesus, one does not need a pastor, a priest or a pope. All that you need is the Bible, and historical context.
It angers me that modern Christians know almost nothing about the political situation of Judea during the time of Jesus-- this is crucial to an overall understanding of the book-- and to the message of Jesus.
>There are reasonable historical reasons why the Jews sentenced Jesus to death.
So of course he knew he was going to die.
>There is a potent political message in the Bible
And it has nothing to do with Revelation
The miracles are all either metaphorical or did not happen, but were necessary to skyrocket Jesus to culture hero status. And if you read it this way, removing the supernatural, you will find no less a story of the greatest and most influential man who ever lived.
That is all.

A long and bitter power struggle. The churches are great because of what the caused, but ultimately (as one can plainly see) not divine in any way.

Why can't they?
