So both sides in their infinite wisdom, decided that reconciliation was the only logical course of action. I can see where you're coming from on the Confederate statues needing to be removed because of the Union losses but if we didn't have both, then we neglect our history and the reason why it was fought in the first place. It's a constant reminder of not only the issue of slavery but also the heroism of individual soldiers, units and the military leaders involved.

They aren't insults to Union soldiers, as most are probably dead at this point in time. I'm not sure about that one. Most people just assume the removal of the statue is another way to make someone happier about a "problem" in history that, to them, should have no reminder of.

Simply put, they need to stay where they are at and it's worth looking upon one to contemplate the severity of tyranny, loyalty and the sacrifices people placed, at that time, for what they believed it. Not unlike any other war fought, even if unpopular.
