yes i was in china, first hong kong then shenzen then further in.
I tried to call a cab and a chinese man took it, I was standing at the door about to enter the cab when he entered the door on the opposite side and his girlfriend entered meekly on our side.
I then moved further in to shenzen and tried to buy a coffee at a stall, even though the menu and obvious stock was limited to coffee the woman serving couldn't understand us, not even apply some basic thought to providing coffee even though the exact nuances of language stopped her from providing whatever sugar of milk or shots might confuse the situation and there were sugar packets available, the worst that would happen is i got a black coffee and wanted white.

then i moved further in , to do with a paving slab plant, i needed a room so went a big hotel that had hotel written on it. They asked for my passport and i gave it to them, they didn't hand it back, i asked for it, they said no you need to stay. so i got a room, stinking of cigarette smoke and watched TV, except the TV was some knock off rebroadcasting whatever the recptionst was watching, the entire TV system was just a repeater and so i watched some american western then a news channel then some chat show and i had no control.

eventually i left and returned home and the biggest change, the memory of coming home was the smell, i don't live in london so coming home to clean air and just no smell was like an epiphany. I need to send someone to do this in future and not go myself.
