In America, people can drive across country and not even be able to be noticed as an outsider asides plates. But America is massive, going from New York to LA is like going from Moscow to Gibraltar, and there's a lot in between. So I wouldn't say it's a problem, in fact it's a common thing for people to go on road trips, especially if they have relatives away from home.
