0 is not the base scale for Celsius, that's somewhere around -273.15 C. Fahrenheit is a very useful scale for telling weather-related temperatures, since 0 F is about the coldest day a typical person could expect and 100 F is about the hottest a typical person could expect to experience. In contrast, if you measured typical temperatures in Celsius you would go from -17 C to about 38 C.

Fahrenheit uses 0F as a baseline because at the time, mixing salt and ice was the coldest thing you could make. 100F was the temperature of the human body. That's on a very human scale of things. Metric is better, but Imperial is a complete, workable system.

The metric system is truly arbitrary. Inches, feet, yards, miles are all used to measure different things. They don't relate to each other because they relate to something else more effectively.

I still have no idea what a centimetre is in terms of height, or what a mL looks like in a cup. teaspoons, cups, oz, inches are all way more relatable than the soul crushing universality of the metric measures.
