It's primarily meant to control the masses in the absence of a state-sanctioned religion, which is why it was designed in psych warfare labs as such. Notice it took the place of Christianity conveniently just as Christianity fell out of the mainstream conscious. There always needs to be some sort of moral system promoted by the state, otherwise an ideological vacuum emerges.

Does it work? I say there are too many contradictions inherent in it. And unlike a metaphysical system where the priest can hand-wave away such contradictions with supernatural explanations, no such recourse exists with progressivism. The average person can see clearly how it's full of shit, in other words.

"Control" may be the wrong word here. In any society ever, in order to maintain stability, some sort of standard of beliefs must be upheld by society, otherwise ethnic conflict will start to drive society to break up.

The elites purposely drove Christianity out of the mainstream conscious, so something had to replace it simultaneously. The problem with progressivism is that it was derived "naturally" like Christianity was over many centuries. Progressivism isn't as robust even though it was designed to appeal to a Christian population by sharing many of its features, including the guilt and self-flagellation.

This is why, for example, when the USSR collapsed, Russia suddenly became Christian despite being atheist for almost a century. Putin explains this very notion in the Oliver Stone doc, not the way I did, but he talks briefly of this vacuum.

Since the West abandoned Christianity, this was the perfect ideology to set in opposition to the West.

On the other hand, the elites always hold a different set of moral standards in any society ever. The elites only answer to each other and look down on morality of the masses.

But this arbitrariness of Christianity is precisely what makes it more natural and less uncanny than the artificial, designed and forced set of beliefs of progressivism.

Secular moral systems are also easier to recognize contradictions in. Think how bizarre something like Christianity is. Well, you can give that bizarre metaphysics a hundred different interpretations to justify anything you want. Progressivism isn't as flexible like that.

The name is just misleading. They may be pushing in a certain direction but whether that's progress is obviously highly debatable. They reject concepts that have proven themselves over extended periods of time just for the sake of making things "different", not for the sake of improving them.

Did you ever notice how many huge strides were made in National Socialism even though 50% of the time they were fighting a world war? Compare that with the 70 years since the end of the war and how little progress we've actually made. 24 years after the war ended we had landed on the Moon. Almost 40 years since then and, other than the internet, we've done absolutely nothing that even comes close to being on par with that.
You need to think of them as relative to the time. Landing on Moon now would be a biggish thing still, so imagine it 40 years ago. Plebs tell you "Shakespeare ain't all that good", but relative to the time it's mindblowing. That doesn't happen anymore because advancement of humanity means those in power vacating their spot for someone else to take the reins. Jews are only ever forcibly removed and that won't be done while people focus on the useful idiots. It will happen eventually, whether we'll be around or not remains to be seen, but I do know that (((they))) have painted themselves in a corner with literally no way out and they'll find out what a Holocaust really is.
