Hitler could have dealt with the US Navy marauding him like pirates until after he defeated the Soviet Union, and bar some big event like a German attack on an American capital ship, the US public would have remained unwilling to go to war with them. Germany HAD to go to war to somehow pay for the massive public spending and infrastructure projects the Nazis had used to put Germany back to work.

Germany was stuck in a bind. The Nazis had defeated the Communists and unified the nation under an extensive public works program. But, they had to pay for it somehow, and they needed oil. And just because the Nazis had taken power DIDN'T mean they were all-powerful -- if the economy started to tumble, the Communists might be able to overthrow them.
