But you do realize that Robert E. Lee agreed to fight for the North months before he chose to fight for the South? Robert E. Lee directly accepted Lincoln's request to join the North. Lee believed that the states should all remain in the union, but more than that, Lee believed slavery was wrong. It wasn't until his home state of Virginia decided to join the Confederacy that Lee joined the South's army. You cannot blame a man for not wanting to kill his own family, friends, and relatives.
