Most people do not understand what apartheid was.
When the english destroyed the Boer republics they imported hundreds of thousands of blacks into the former independent white republics.
When Afrikaners took back power, their goal was to get black people to move back to their areas of origin, the Bantustans(pic related). These were the areas that these tribes occupied before the British forced us all within a single border.
These areas were funded with billions in white tax payer money in the hopes that these black states would become independent and that they would govern themselves.
But blacks had become used to the benefits of european civilization and did not want to leave.
Some of the apartheid laws were harsh but their goal was to make it unpleasant so that blacks would leave and live in their own states where they could make their own laws.
