It's inherently utopian.
It promises nice things to people who weren't willing to work hard enough to earn it.
So you have to take it from others, which stifles their ability to make their own way.

Do you know why gov'ts are so inefficient, corrupt and overall damaging to their countries in the long run? It's the same reason Socialism is. Capitalist countries do well as long as gov'ts are small, but when they swell it's essential socialism. Most european countries are socialist already, and the US under Obama tried to make the full switch. What's lacking is the death of the private sector, then you'll have rationed, mass-produced bread in bakeries just like we did in soviet times.
