Yeah it's a tactic of the elites to further divide the populace and make people see the other side as little more than subhuman violent extremists who want you dead. Left and right think this way about their opponents, they dehumanize them and think they're feeble minded violent psychopaths. That's what the elites want, the population too busy fighting each other so they don't start fighting the real enemy, the man behind the curtain.
