I think that could work on the left, precisely because they tend to be moral relativists. But not on the right, because they usually oppose moral relativism, either via appealing to God or morals derived from religion, or appealing to some kind of universal morality that can be discovered using reason and logic.

In Spain, we still have a law against blasphemy (against "hurting religious feelings", literally), so every once in a while when leftists demonstrate against the Church, the Catholic right says that "free speech" doesn't cover that kind of discourse (mocking religion or religious figures). But then they claim their right to free speech when talking against homosexuality or whatever, and then it's the left that calls it "hate speech" and says it shouldn't be allowed. There are double standards from both sides. Neither wants free speech in general, only when it's convenient to their political narrative.

Yea, that's the point I'm trying to get at with this. Both sides only want their view of history shown. Free speech is in the same situation, but I'm trying to focus more on the preservation of history at the moment. I'm a history major, so this is important to me. Trying to show that both sides are wrong and all of it needs to be preserved. Just having a hard time with the right wing side of things.

The first time I did it, I started in Switzerland (definitely not risking that long hike again).
