The superior option is ALWAYS to HOST your service. The purpose of this thread is to offer NORMIE FRIENDLY OPTIONS.

QWANT AND BRAVE, are SUPERIOR to google products. You really should HOST searx for search engine, and use a opensource browser. I am providing the best normie friendly options that I found.

Search engine:
- Yacy (p2p, you can control everything, no central server to take down)
- DuckDuckGo (yes, Kike, but not google)

General anti-censorship:
- Retroshare
- Zeronet (best, has literally everything, from mail to blogs and even twitter replacement)

And of course tor if you are really paranoid (works with both RS and Zero)

Email:
- Whatever but use a real email client, not webmail and use PGP (easy to use and set up using Thunderbird and the Enigmail addon) that way all your emails are encrypted even on the server.
- Or get a cheap server and domain name and host it there.

-yacy: Peer to Peer search engine. Open source and each node (PC) helps with the index. Tons of privacy features and configuration options. But for newbies just clicking on start.exe is fine too.

-Zeronet: Open source too, transforms the web into p2p distributed. Each client hosts the website that he wants. Its based on strong cryptography (actually the adress of a site is also a bitcoin adress, no need for patreon anymore, you can fund sites directly). Its possible to have multiple people edit one site but one owner still having control over it (or not, depending on what you want). Starting it is literally just 2 clicks at most. Underlying protocol is BitTorrent. see my post here for a screenshot of the startpage: >>137798042

-Retroshare: Exists since 12 years, its not web based but a realy program. Despite its name its not (just) for file sharing. It has distributed: Forums, Channels (RSS like), Mail, Chat, twitter-like stuff etc... Even more privacy focused than Zeronet but does not look quite as fancy

you can get both at:

The concepts are extermely well thought out. Basically the more peers there are, the better it gets. Most approaches unfortunately create friction with increasing number of peers.

Marriage Equality and Gay Rights in general are significant civil rights issues, and it is completely legitimate to be upset at laws (and the people who contributed to their passage) that assert that homosexual couples are not equal to heterosexual couples, and therefore not entitled to legal recognition and rights as a family. I know Soros joined Firefox but it's still open source so there's nothing they can do to you... Code is open for everyone to see. Also, using Vivaldi to boycott google is retarded, Vivaldi is based on Chrome, I actually remember using some earlier versions of Vivaldi and they forgot to replace "Chrome" with "Vivaldi" in some places.
It's really hard to find a good browser and I think we can all agree that Chrome is the most stable one. But I've been ungoogled and unmicrosofted for a long long time and been using Firefox ever since, not even Firefox is as stable as Chrome and you're using random unknown browsers? Firefox is fine and against user tracking, it even has a mobile browser based on privacy (focus something).

the point of TOR is to be anonymous, but anonymous does NOT mean encrypted. it successful masks WHO sent a message, but it doesn't mask WHAT the message actually is. it would be a very bad idea to submit your credit card information through TOR

Thats exactly what it does. It does confidentiality + anonymity.
Thats why the NSA wrote in the Snowden docs "Tor sucks" because they cannot break the encryption

From wikipedia on TOR:
>Tor aims to conceal its users' identities and their online activity from surveillance and traffic analysis by separating identification and routing. It is an implementation of onion routing, which encrypts and then randomly bounces communications through a network of relays run by volunteers around the globe. These onion routers employ encryption in a multi-layered manner (hence the onion metaphor) to ensure perfect forward secrecy between relays, thereby providing users with anonymity in network location. That anonymity extends to the hosting of censorship-resistant content by Tor's anonymous hidden service feature.[24] Furthermore, by keeping some of the entry relays (bridge relays) secret, users can evade Internet censorship that relies upon blocking public Tor relays.[77]

>Because the IP address of the sender and the recipient are not both in cleartext at any hop along the way, anyone eavesdropping at any point along the communication channel cannot directly identify both ends. Furthermore, to the recipient it appears that the last Tor node (called the exit node), rather than the sender, is the originator of the communication.
>>
>>137813408
the issue with using TOR is that not every website offers HTTPS. turning on HTTPSEverywhere doesn't affect sites that don't offer it. your data will be unencrypted when it leaves a TOR exit node.

if a site offers HTTPS and you're using TOR, you're likely good to go
if it doesn't offer HTTPS and you're using TOR, your data is at the mercy of whoever is running that exit node
>>
>>137798914

>>
>>137815119
you misunderstand how, and particularly WHEN https works.

Lets take this setup:

You--TOR--Website

Without https you have encryption between you and Tor, but not between the exit node of Tor and the website. This does not really matter at all.

With https you have the same as above but on top of that everything is encrypted with https too. (encrypting the already encrypted data)

So in any case, Tor adds encryption and privacy.

the data that exits your computer is identical to the data that leaves the exit node. ALWAYS. with or without https

with https, the plain text is encrypted before it even leaves your computer. then it gets encrypted again on its way through the tor network. then it gets decrypted to the encrypted data that left your computer. then the exit node sends the encrypted data that left your computer to the final server. finally, the server decrypts the encrypted data back into plain text.

without https, the data that leaves your computer is plain-text, gets encrypted on its way to the exit node, goes back to being plaintext, and is sent to the final server. how can you say that doesn't matter?

it seems to me that the fact that your data is in a plaintext form at some point during the chain (without HTTPS) is much more important than the "double encryption" you're talking about (with HTTPS). anyone running an exit node has ready access to the data that left your computer (whether encrypted or unencrypted)

What is good about waterfox? It was basically firefox x32 source modified by amateur young programmer with basic copy pasted code hacks to work as a x64 platform.

It has been over a year since firefox officially released x64 and since then waterfox only plunged into darkness more and more.

I agree with the topic of the thread, but let's research what we give people to use more... and be more rational about it.

Other thread got archived before I could reply, I'm just going to post here because it's related and it was a cool thread. We were talking about decentralizing the internet:

>>137817924
>solar powered nodes
I'm sure we're not too far off from seeing those on every rooftop in NYC or LA. Once wireless technology becomes a little bit faster it will take off.

In Spain they seem to be a lot closer than we are to implementing these sorts of things:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gD3HYeD4Lm4
They have something called Guifi, which is an incentivized, collaborative, telecommunications network. They have done it mostly out of necessity and lack of having any internet in many places. They have something like 4g antennas they provide internet with, and people also install their own unlicensed fiber optic cables through manholes underground.

I think there is a potential for an explosion much like we saw with bitcoin for decentralized ISPs. The reason bitcoin is so amazing and successful is because of its distributed, incentivized system. If there is good money to be made the market will be filled very quickly, with competition grinding it down to bleeding edge efficiency.

Pale Moon user here. Don't fall for the AdNauseum or Brave scam. Pale Moon comes de-Googled — something that Waterfox and Brave (and Chrome, Chromium, and Firefox) are not.

I use the Compact Moon theme with Pale Moon. Preserving my privacy, defeating trackers, and eliminating ads are my goal. Addons I recommend are:

All-In-One Gestures
Blender
Change Referer Button
Click&Clean
Compact Moon Options
Cookies Exterminator
Decentraleyes
Greasemonkey (with 4chan X)
HTTPS Everywhere
Privacy Settings
Secret Agent
uBlock Origin
uMatrix

Then, strip out any dormant Google connection thusly — Run Pale Moon. Type "about:config" in the url bar, search for "safebrows". Delete the two url entries you see on the right side. Then, enable anti-fingerprinting thusly — Type "about:config", search for "canvas.poisondata". Double click to toggle it to true. To test that it is working, go here - https://browserleaks.com/canvas. You should have a new signature each time you refresh.

Then, block ads and trackers before they even get to your pc — Modify your HOSTS file.
http://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.htm

That combination is how you maintain privacy, defeat ads and trackers and SJWfox, and how you disconnect from Google. For further disconnecting from Google, use ProtonMail for email, and use searx.com or qwant.com for searches. For further privacy, consider using a VPN such as PrivateInternetAccess. For even better privacy, use a VPN that originates out of a country that isn't a member of the Fourteen Eyes.

>Full Hodor

Welcome to the botnet. Brave's creator, the same guy who made Javascript which is a primary instrument to spy on you and trample on your privacy, has made no secret of the fact that he fully intends to collect and package your tracking data and sell it to advertisers.

"Once Brave has 7+ million users, the company will use your browsing history and share industry-standard ad categories with publishers. Armed with this data, they'll be able to place appropriate ads. Is it still invasive? Sure, to an extent. But Brave is hoping users will be able to look past that and is even planning to offer a small financial incentive to do so."

Fuck off.

https://www.techspot.com/news/63536-brave-speedy-browser-strips-out-web-tracker-ads.html

https://www.sitepoint.com/interview-brendan-eich-ceo-brave/

The CEO's plan is to lure in users by making claims of "privacy", and then he fully intends to exploit that user base as a marketing ploy to sell clicks back to advertisers. Brave is a scam.

Also, Hodor.

Brave is Chromium trash.

Co-founder of Firefox could've easily just used the open-source code from Firefox itself and reworked it to his favor. There's no legal ramifications for it.

He opted to use Chromium trash cause he's just making a worthless unified mobile browser.

Android = Google.

Lost cause.

Just use Waterfox w/ ublock and noscript and Duckduckgo if you're on PC. There is no safe searching on mobile, stop pretending. You take the risk using mobile-trash for internet.

The only way to hurt google is to boycott its advertisers.

>>137837731
Alright, got it to work. I have to open them in new tabs, otherwise they fuck up. Saw that solution on their forum. Can finally use brave fully on mobile thank fuck.

Firefox is shit
I tried, i really tried.
Chromium is the defect best browser, but use iridium to cut out most of the google crap
>>
>>137828858

Downloaded, stripped out the Google connection and changed hosts file.

Ads run on YouTube - particularly that fucking annoying Grammerly one that seems to get past Adblock on Firefox. It was the main reason I switched to Brave, which blocked it immediately.

None of the Adblock plugins for Firefox work with Pale Moon. Pale Moon doesn't offer any AdBlocking?

https://www.privacytools.io/#browser
>>
>>137844131
because he already cashed the checks idiot

he went to them with his browser idea and they paid him to allow them a platform

what happens when they dont get a return for what they already paid for?

you really are retarded if you cant understand economics

the tracking and anti fraud is already built in to allow confirmation via third party ad agencies
>>
if eich believed in true privacy and freedom he would of been non profit and not beholden to ad agencies

instead he chose make deals before the browser was even successful

Chrome is based on Chromium, not the other way a round, dingus. It's open source as well, go audit it if you want. Yes, there was a thing a couple of years ago when Chromium had a security hole, but it's okay for ordinary internet browsing. It's quite light, as well.
Do use Firefox (or any of its forks) if you want more control over your browser, though.
>>
>>137845101
True, I'm getting Qubes right now
>>
>>137794407
I'm using FF until I can install privacy add-ons in Brave.

Prefer the formatting of DDG to Qwant.

Protonmail routes their traffic through Israel. I use Tutanota.

ublock is an adblocker
did you try that?
>>
>>137794407
Don't forget to use Wire instead of Google Hangouts/kikebook messenger/Skype.
>>
>>137845329
the fact of the matter is Eich did get paid and he sold out to ad agencies

what was the product he sold?
his user base!

you also cant deny that built within the browser is tracking features to prevent fraudulent advert tricks and to confirm that individual users are seeing their adverts so they continue to pay

>buh u can turn it off heh heh

its still built in as a feature and the blockchain itself is a ledger that isnt anonymous at all
>>
>>137845347
>firefox
its mozilla and its a side project unrelated to firefox that they didnt even start yet

if you actually read the article and didnt just rephrase what you read on pol without verifying youd know that

the soros part is in fact fake news and unrelated because the project doesnt even exist yet
>>
>>137845373
That seems quite drastic unless you really know what you are doing.

If you really care and are not an expert in OSs and security dualbooting Ubuntu or Debian is probably a superior choice.
>>
>>137845373
Why? You can literally boot any distro from USB, if you're that concerned about security.
>>
>>137845787
the only time you should stop using firefox is when mozilla does something to it. Not like you give it money.

mozilla has always been a fag.

Retard.

Use gnu icecat if you care about freedom.
Use iridium/Inox if you want chrome without the Google parts.

im not sure how hes a retard..

google really does have its claws in chromiunm and he was just explaining that
>>

What exactly is wrong with that?

That is not even that little, considering that the project is basically caving out a few parts out of chromium.

>he says that he want to be anti google.
>he uses a website that uses google scripts to operate

No, nobody has his claws on FOSS software that is the entire point.

Him not understand that makes him a retard.
>>
>>137846710
Not him, but I pay for a pass with bitcoin and use a vpn, as well as an agent spoofer. Then I disable all Google scripts.
>>
>>137846710
And?

Buy a pass and block non-free JavaScript if you care.
>>
>>137846657
because they arent able to keep up with upstream and its just a school project

dont expect any real long term support
(they list that on the project page)

look at how many commits happen per day with chromium

they cant downstream all of that with their patches when they arent even funded

google employs devs in chromium and they donate to the project

they control upstream features and direction
>>

Of course, that is very obviously the case.

But what about it?
