Why do people who make memes hating america not even bother doing their research? They're comparing a long-distance train to high speed rail for fucks sake. We have high speed rail too but the eurofag who made this thinks ignorance helps him in this case
>>
American freight rail is pretty much the best in the world too.
>>
>>137671130
I'd take a hulking steel beast any day over a faggy plastic speed train
>>
>>137671130

Hatred for America desu. Plus, those little shit countries in Europe have like 200 miles of tracka piece. It takes me 200 miles just to get to the next state. Way more expensive here.
>>
>>137671130
Actually took the "high speed rail" in the US once. It's most certainly not the same thing as an actual high speed rail.

American's train system is sub-par because the auto and oil industry destroyed it.

Biggest cost of high speed rail is the cost of land

Europe and Asia build hi speed rail through mostly rural areas where land is cheap.

Lets NOT spend trillions of dollars to straighten out the north east corridor so we can build high speed rail from Washington to Boston.

That's what aircraft are for.

Pic related - furries suck.

>>
our trains are so slow because you can't go fast when making a turn. nothing's gonna get done unless you scrap everything and connect every station with a straight track
>>

Technically, the conductor tells the engineer when it is safe for the train to move.

So the conductor is senior to the engineer.

>>137673547
Yeah same thing in Chicago. There's the 'L' Metro 20 ft up, the Metra commuter at ground level, and before the auto industry killed it there was a subway below ground level. Kinda sucks because they just sealed up the tunnels (some with cars in them) so they really could have kept them operating if they wanted. Funny thing is beneath the subway is ANOTHER narrow-gauge system that is unfortunately beyond repair.
>>
>>137673561

In my Russo-bro's defence, electric cars are kind of a "scam". If an electric car is more expensive than the internal combustion alternative than what is saved in gas money then you are doing more harm to the environment than good because most of that cost is ultimately traceable to fossil fuel consumption or shitting up some poor chink's river with heavy metal poisoning.

I put "scam" in quotation marks because investing in electric cars is nonetheless a necessary step in kicking humanity's oil addiction. It's an investment such that Peak Oil doesn't sting as badly once it happens.

You don't have to build it across the whole fucking country for it to be useful. Just put small Yurop-sized routes across the major metropolitan areas. The Northeast Corridor is already serviced by Acela (the ONLY profitable Amtrak passenger line, by the way), and there's no reason (other than political ones) we couldn't do the same or better in SoCal, the Great Lakes region, or the Texas Triangle.
>>
>>137671130

Behold the single most fuel efficient way to transport good that currently exists on Earth. The US has an extensive freight rail network, one that is very valuable.

You can't effectively track share high speed trains with heavy frieghters. We need to build new tracks. Thousands of miles through mountainous terrain. Full of little towns and small cities with no doubt low ridership.

I do think american rail networks need work, but we should focus on freight and urban and intercity rail developments at a state/state joint level, and keep Amtrak alive and in a bit better shape, especially in the eastern corridor.

But we don't need a TGV or ICE for example.

Is public transportation really efficient? If its so efficient in the long run why is it that other people have to subsidize everything for you?

Gasoline and diesel engines are continually making advancements in efficiency, HCCI for example, and electric vehicles are viable for daily commutes of most people. Some motorcycles and scooters can easily hit 60-80mpg if fuel efficiency is the primary concern.

Public transportation isn't a necessity for a functional society. The fact that we have anyone dependent upon inner city buses shows a great malady taken root.

the conductor literally sits there, calls signals, and walks the train if there's a mechanical problem, he has no say whatsoever in how the trains run, because he's not qualified to run the train, all train crews start out as conductors and have to go through additional training/certification to become engineers.

PS: The Train Dispatcher is the one who decides how the train runs, the Crew just follows the signals

Again, don't be wishy washy. I'm not building anything here. You're the proponent of widely abused public services, not me.
The destination's traffic isn't in question, but ridership of public transport is. Ton of places have bustling populations but very low ridership on their buses. The average person doesn't ride a bus, doesn't want to ride a bus. Buses are slow, the riders have no agency, they're far from ideal.
You're positing a whole host of things without any concrete basis.

Infrastructure projects get government money, and when the government is dishing out money to subsidize anything it will end up in some Jew's pockets. Its a racket. High speed rail lines would be billion dollar initiatives. That means someone would be skimming millions in free tax payer money.
>>
>>137683395
Commiefornia is a good example of public transportation gone bad. The cities fucked their roads for bike lanes and bus stops, and now due to traffic congestion people with money slowed their visit to commercial centers (and decreased willingness to spend due to tax increase) while subsidized buses literally bused in thugs and crime.

American car culture hasn't poisoned anything. Your use of emotionally charged language here is a clear sign of intellectual dishonesty. What car ownership has done is give people agency, and that is universally a good thing.
Rehashing the same fallacious points is not gaining you any ground. You cannot prove that public transportation systems would be better. You can't prove they're efficient in any material sense as they run tremendous losses.

The car industry has lobbied for the way our highways, roads and cities were built. It's basically a requirement that you own a car to succeed in society. We are slaves to the car industry.

Why shouldn't an individual have the means to travel where they want, at any time they want? This isn't some conspiratorial machination playing out. It is quintessentially American philosophy; empowering the individual.

>everything you just said is a fallacy because I said so

Okay, let me make this really simple for you. Why do you think we fit as large of semi trucks on the road as possible to move things? Why do you think we use as big of freight ships as we can harbor to move things across the ocean? Why don't we use billions of tiny vehicles for everything instead? I'll tell you why, because moving a lot of things with one large vehicle is is inherently more efficient than moving a lot of things with a lot of tiny vehicles.

As Earth's population grows and energy fails to keep up the defining attribute of changing technology and infrastructure will be efficiency, doing the same with less.

is emotionally charged. This is what would be called rhetoric, it isn't dialectic. Failing to differentiate between these two things shows you don't understand argumentation.

Speaking of fallacies, you're making an enormous one, false dichotomy. Moving freight and moving people aren't comparable. Freight is moved by private industry, it is entirely profit driven, it is also in demand 100% of the time in all locales. Public transportation is none of these things.

The only public transport that really works is commuter rail.

Can you imagine trying to get around New York City, London or Singapore without their subways? You would spend all day travelling to where you're going if all you could do was travel on the streets.

Buses have to travel on the streets and take forever as they stop every couple of blocks for people to get on and off. In some cities a healthy person can walk faster than a bus.

In the US, planes are more efficient.

Planes go just about everywhere. Trains have a few major routes through the country. Even if your path is a straight line you still need to fill gas before and after. Taking amtrak up the east coast is a 24 hour trip, and thats just VA to FL. By plane thats 2 hrs. Costs just dont make up for the difference in convenience.

Trains arent reasonable. Good for freight, unreasonable for traveling.
