How can there be such a huge gap in intellectual accomplishments between two such closely related peoples like Italians and Iberians?

Mathematicians
Italians:Fibonacci, Lagrange, Ricci-Curbastro, Ruffini, Fubini, Peano, etc.
Iberians:???

Scientists
Italians:Galilei, Torricelli, Fermi, Majorana, Avogrado, Natta, Golgi, Malpighi, etc.
Iberians:???

Inventors
Italians:Volta, Marconi, Pacinotti, Meucci, Barsanti, Perotto, Faggin, etc.
Iberians:???

Painters
Italians:Da Vinci, Raphael, Michelangelo, Botticelli, Caravaggio, Boccioni, etc.
Iberians:Retards who painted like 5 year olds.

The pattern is the same for all fields of intellectual endeavor, Iberians are consistently subsaharan african tier.

Because Spain was under military occupation by the Moors throughout the middle ages, and when the rest of Europe was heading into the renaissance, it was a devastated wasteland just starting to recover from the Reconquista wars.

maybe here's your problem

Spaniards and Portuguese won an entire continent for catholicism, and some other countries, this already is a historical accomplishment

You missed oceanic explorers. During the renaissance, Iberia was not nearly as affected by plague as the rest of Europe, which sequestered their best and brightest in Italian walled cities. Because of this, they explored trade routes to India, conquered the Americas, and solidified a hold that lasted a few hundred years on the high seas.

TL;DR, they were the chads of medeival urop

Italy never threatened the French, English or Dutch, and so the achievements of its sons were happily promoted in general Western discourse. Spain, on the other hand, was a major enemy in the early modern era. It was thus demonised and its glories of the period in question remain unknown beyond its own borders. Said rivalries ultimately resulted in defeat for Spain, leading to its more recent history of lurching from one political disaster to another, which has obviously not produced conditions conducive to the sort of things hailed in the OP.

The Iberians nevertheless remain among the greatest imperial powers in human history, up with the English, the Russians, the Romans, Persians and Han.

Spansh are backward and linguistically distinct because of the Muslim yoke. Proof: compare the Portuguese, who produced comparable innovation (prior to circumnavigating the globe they completely revolutionized ship design as a result of programmatic research and developed navigation) and linguistically comparable to French. Where Spanish and Portuguese depart it's because of obvious Arabic loanwords.

Portuguese has just as many Arabic borrowings as Castilian, and the words concerned are often almost identical. The true difference between the languages has more to do with respectively stronger substrate influence from Celtic and Vasconic.

Nah, it's because we didn't exterminated the natives unlike the Brits did in America. We only killed their men and breed their women... and bring some niggers as slaves.

Think about it for a second. Every country that was a colony at some point of time, ask the percentage of natives and colonials, then look if they are sucessful or not:
USA, Canada, Australia, New Zeland. They are doing fine because their natives were almost removed from existence and they are nothing but a minority, a nuissance that has no power.
Now, if you ask for other former british colonies such as Italy, Hong Kong, and any other african countries that were under british rule, they are poor, below the leage, and that's because natives were not removed, or at least not properly. You can see a middle ground between those two groups in South Africa, where the colonial population are a minority where there are less and less whites in there, and at the same time you can appreciate a progressive downfalL in that country.

It pretty much applies in Iberoamerican countries, where the progress of the country strongly depends of the native population and/or the castas that lives in those countries. In Argentina and Chile there are a lot of Castizos, a casta below native spaniards, and they are doing really well compared to other countries, such as... well, any other Center-America country, where native people, 'Indios' and others are the mayority.

Over the past 200 years, Scandinavians have contributed FAR more to modern medicine, science and technology, even with significantly smaller populations. Spain peaked in the 17th century. Those Moorish niggers have done next to nothing for the best part of half a millennia. Most of Europe's recent scientific and cultural achievements, have been made by the British, Germans, French and Italians.

Well yes, Italy was relevant in the 11th-15th centuries. It hasn't been relevant since. Of note is stabbing Byzantine in the back, keeping the Ottomans well in pocket with the spice trade and being eternally irrelevant

Meanwhile the Iberians dominated the 15th and 16th centuries, basically kickstarted globalization and pioneered discovery.

This is were you shows your ignorance. Iberians were civilized before the roman invasion, and under the roman rule Hispania was one of the most important provinces of Rome for its culture and wealth, with the Baetica being a senatorial province (do you even understand what this means??) giving two emperors for the glory of the Roman Empire.

Daily reminder that Portuguese navigator Miguel Corte-Real was the first European to reach US soil in 1511.

The Portuguese Empire was the first and the longest-ever lived global overseas empire in a time when most of Europe was jerking cocks to each other in pointless christianity differences or just plain and simply being ass-rammed by turkroaches in the East.

Kek. Iberian society was orgaized in city-states and classes. Their writting system has been posted by now, and even in the south there was a tartessian variant. Celtiberians had their own language and writting system too. The fuck are you talking about? There are even an older "primitive" civilization, the Millares. Stop talking out of your ass.

They were military powers, mate. Well, Spain was. Portugal had a monopoly on spice until they got HENKED.
Spain was still a blasted wasteland in the 16th century, when Charles was emperor of nearly all actual human beings, froggy notwithstanding, shit, most of it remains so to this day.
They became powerful because of their fucking brutal soldiers and because they stumbled on the largest quantity of gold ever discovered, and proceeded to trade it all away for manufactured goods from England and - get this - the fucking Netherlands.

In a roundabout way, the Spanish pumped wealth into the Low Countries in exchange for ephemeral shit, without them they probably, paradoxically, never would have been as significant as they became.
Might never have become independent at all.
