Was asking the burger. I looked up the answer anyway. Both were slave owners, but Jefferson opposed slavery his entire life and promoted legislation that moved to abolish slavery. The reason he didn't free his is because he saw it as a national issue that needed fixing, not a personal issue. Freeing his wouldn't accomplish anything on a larger scale.

Of the main founding fathers, the ones who didn't own slaves were: John Adams, Alexander Hamilton, Samuel Adams, Thomas Paine and Roger Sherman.
