i tried to look it up but hard to get a basic gestalt.
North was industrializing and was in debt and needed to recoup their money, but couldnt compete with slave labour for selling cotton(anything else?) to europe, initially while funding industrialization?
Ending slavery would financially cripple the south.
There was about the be westward expansion, north wanted only white labour to be used west, but south wanted to use slavery to develop the southwest?
Abe Lincoln was elected as president with 0 electoral college votes from the south, and the south felt they were not represented by the USA, so better to secede?

Anti Slavery was a new western value that had grown ever since the revolutionary era. Even the Founding Fathers who owned slaves spoke against it. The North didnt DEPEND upon slaves for the economy so they were more keen to accept freeing them. The South, however, was completely dependant upon them. This divide grew and erupted when any new state needed to decide its slavery laws. There were other factors but these are the biggest. However, the REAL redpill is that Lincoln was a federalist above all else. He cared not for blacks but for federal over state power and centralization of power. The preservation of the Union in his eyes was natural when you know of his stance. He even said that if he could, he would keep the institution of slavery and beat the south if he could do both. Thats a part of why Americas political parties are often divided by State and Federal power support in the Republican and Democratic parties respectively.

Oh, and the Northerners committed countless war crimes against southerners, and Ulysses was a scumbag who in a better world wouldve shot himself. But it was for the best that the North won.

That is true, the point was more towards a civil war isn't going to be half the country vs the other half. Alot of Americans at the time had no idea what was going on. This time around with the internet and all, I would imagine most not wanting any part in it
