Why wasn't there widespread conspiracy theorism and anti-governmental movement in 80s and 90s as in 00s and 10s? How much is internet responsible for the redpilling?

When there was a "moon landing" or JFK assassination, pretty much everyone accepted the official narrative, same as with Holohoax, but today every event is scrutinized and found an exact opposite - e.g. man running over Charloteville lefties - clearly a false flag, not to mention 9/11.
