Marches with torches are common thing in Europe. Whenever you march in the night, you use torches to cause a dramatic visual effect. Torch marches are almost exclusively done by anti-racist protests, or other protests reacting to political violence or terror. A lot of adult decent people show up with their children to march silently trough the night or sing protest songs.
