> get job out of Uni
> need to get a new place to live
> job is near but not in big city
> see some cheaper apartments
> look at reviews and see people complaining that the area has loads of crime and shitty neighbors living on welfare with no jobs
> mfw my options are live farther away or pay significantly more to not live by these assholes
How do we deal with 'the hoods'?

Just suck it up, you spend 99% of your time jacking off in front of a computer screen, where you're doing it doesn't really matter.
Better to put your pride aside for a few years and save better money, then make larger purchases later in life with less reliance on loans. The alternative is you drive yourself into debt trying to fit in/catch up with your peers and save 20 minutes travel to work each day. Not really worth it.
It's not likely that you're going to get daily home invasions, also you're in Murrica so keep a gun close by.

Not daily home invasions, but the city is pretty crime ridden. I'm not going to be too specific (because muh doxers), but it is bad. According to this (https://www.neighborhoodscout.com/blog/top100dangerous), said city is near the top.
