In all fairness, they probably did that because they knew that antifa would show up and they couldn't protect everyone and prevent all property damage. It's unfortunate, genuinely, but the state was just doing its duty to protect citizens and their property. The reality is that we cannot truly have free speech in the US until antifa is declared a terrorist organization or otherwise completely dismantled.
