The south wanted coke served in restaurants while the north wanted pepsi, looking back the south probably had the better argument but in his later years General Lee went a little nuts and started drinking RC cola.

States' rights, more efficient government, fighting the takeover of special interests that undermine the equity of the union, a clear cut constitution to avoid issues of state vs federal, etc. US Constitution was too ambiguous hence all the problems that led to the civil war.
All you really need to do to understand is observe the differences between the Confederate and US Constitutions.
Was slavery part of it? yeah, but no exclusively and there are several more non-slavery differences.

Hell, we could omit the bits about slavery and put it as a package of amendments to the US Constitution and it's bound to get widespread support.

Economic war like all wars, really not that hard to figure out.
Civil war was the start of run away federal overreach also.

states rights. Slavery was an issue of states rights and yankees wanted to use federal powers to abolish it. Lincoln wasn't even on the ballot in North and South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi, Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas. The south felt as if they were being ruled over without representation. Lincoln's entire platform was basically just anti south. There was an entire "abolitionist party" that hardly got any support.

OP here, thanks guys, you helped me understand much better.

Slavery was the catalytic issue, but fundimentally the US civil war was fought over the role of the Federal Government, and whether the United States was a federation or a *con*federation.

In essence, the reason the war was fought was to decide over whether the Federal government was a servant or master of the states, whether the States were countries or merely provinces of the Federal Government. Even if the issue of slavery was resolved 100% peacefully, there would still have been a war fought at some point over the issue.

Sephardic Jews ran the Slave trade and Ran a Cotton and tobacco monopoly in the south. They convinced the White Southerner that he was fighting the second American Revolution.

Abraham Lincoln was a peace of shit that starved hundreds of thousands of southerners to death, but he did keep the Union together and less likely (which ended up being inevitably) preyed upon by foreign banks.

Sad reality.

Money played off as state's rights.

The South had a disproportionate amount of wealth compared to its population size. When Lincoln, a known abolitionist, was elected in spit of the entire South uniting against keeping him out, they realized they were fucked. Sadly, the South was overly reactive in their fear that Lincoln would abolish slavery in the short term with a long term fear that they would slide into political irrelevance against the North's overwhelming advantage in numbers, and shot themselves in the foot by leaving instead of trying to let slavery die on their terms over several decades when it started to hit diminishing economic returns. So, instead, the US got a hard departure from slavery that left everyone pissed off and divided, we got several of the worst amendments ever conceived, and a gross expansion of the Federal government.
